My new Kindle is on its way!

I feel like I just spent a huge chunk of money on it (even though I got the cheap one with special offers).  I keep trying to rationalize why I'm purchasing it...  So here's why I've shelled out money for a kindle, even though I'm awful at technology and I've always loved the smell and feel of books:

1).  A kindle will fit on the shelf of an elliptical machine on the gym. Surely, reading a book will make workouts more enjoyable.

2).  I have really, really bad arms.  (Surgery made it both worse and better).  Sometimes it's actually physically uncomfortable for me to hold books for extended periods of time, especially large books.

3). The boyfriend may no longer realize how many books I buy... if they're hidden away.

What am I worried about?

1). What if I miss holding a book (even if it hurts)?

2).  What do I do with all my books that aren't on Kindle?

3).  Ebooks are still pretty pricey.

So what all do you think?  Have you gotten a e-reader?  What are the pros and cons?

I have a kindle that I got for my bday in February, and I had many of the same doubts. I am a book fanatic, always have been. I also had the same reasons for wanting a kindle - easier to hold, easier to read on the elliptical, etc. I can tell you that after having it for a few months, I LOVE it! It is much easier to hold/"flip pages", much easier to read on the elliptical, and it does more than just house many books. You can surf the internet on it - I go on facebook on there sometimes. All the books you buy on it are all in one location (I don't know about you, but between lending out books and picking ones up to start, I have them everywhere and sometimes lose track of them) and you can share books with other Kindle users. I also heard that they are starting a Kindle library soon. You still have all of your pre-Kindle books for when you want to read them, or have the feel of a real book, and Kindle books are frequently cheaper than real ones. Not always by a lot, but every little bit helps. And there are tons you can find for under $5. I think you will be very happy with it overall :)

Apparently the order is all wonky!

I do think the books in one location will be neat!

    It comes in two days!

And I've gone exclamation point happy!  Between finishing my last paper and ordering a kindle, I'm in a darn good mood!

#3 is by far the best reason.

My boyfriend bought me a nook because my books were cluttering up the apartment.  I'm still el cheapo about buying books on my nook though :)

Are you in our awesome book club yet?  Just sayin...you should join.

(this is gonna be a post and run, so if you're NOT in the book club, let me know and I'll give you details or something via PM)
I guess, to tell you the truth, I've never had much of a desire to grow facial hair. I think I've managed to play quarterback just fine without a mustache. - Peyton

I am NOT in a book club. It sounds fun though... so long as I don't get penalized when I go OMG I have school and can't read for a week. June looks to be a nightmare (two graduate level classes in a month, one of which is honestly only three weeks long!).  And I work.  And hypothetically have a life. Sending PM for more details.

...oh and the boyfriend definitely points to my FOUR bookshelves filled with books.  And whenever a new one appears in the mail, he reminds me that I already have some. :)
Hell, I even like SMELLING books (ok that probably makes me weird).
    Posted by LivLeighton
You're not alone.  I love the smell of books, particularly old musty books that are over a hundred years old.  There's something that's just *perfect* about it.  So I have very, very mixed feelings about the ereader.  On the one hand, I'm super excited.  On the other, I feel like wailing and running around my living room screaming, what have I done?!

...okay, slight exaggeration there, but still, that feeling is there.  So I get it.

Sorry about the multiple surgeries.  I'd probably FREAK if someone came after my right hand with a knife again.  It did not go well.  I was supposed to have it on my left too, but since I ended up with hypersensitivity, why on earth would I risk my left hand too?!

Danser, if you haven't read any Jane Austen, you should.  I love Persuasion and Pride and Prejudice.  Jane Eyre is a good read too.

Portable electronic library = vacation win!

Ouch, that sounds painful.  Mine is pretty lame.  I have carpal/cubital tunnel in both of my arms.  The carpal surgery on my right hand went fairly well.  I'm thinking I might have to suck it up and have surgery on my left hand because when I type sometimes it seizes up and goes numb/pain and I have to let it rest for a minute before I can continue.

The major complications were with the cubital tunnel surgery. My ulnar nerve (along the elbow/funny bone) became hyper sensitive.  Some things still hurt for me to do...  like writing for extended periods of time, excruciating.  Heck, I ride horses, and I can't even pick out the horse's feet sometimes.  :(

Becunning, you should join our book club on Goodreads! It's slowly been dying a gradual death... but a few of us are still into it! And we're just choosing our June book now. Join goodreads.com then search for NEY Book Club.

Also, I love love love my kindle! And I was hesitant at first. But I save soo much money on books now. And it's just so handy! I still have some of my favourite books in print though.

I've gone totally classics happy.  Amazon sent me a nice email informing me that I could buy books NOW and they'd be on my kindle when it arrived.  I'm finding all my (free) Jane Austen... now I'm onto Shakespeare and other random free classics.  Squee!

I will take a look at the book club tomorrow bren... in the meantime, I have more free classics to find!  Squee!

I would love to get a Kindle.  I think it's going onto my Christmas list this year.  I love to read and I hate to get rid of books after I've bought them, but I hate that they take up so much room in my house.
