Not Engaged Yet

My dad dropped the ball.

My dad texted me last night asking why BF is going to come over tomorrow to talk to him about something.

I told him I had no idea (even though I have an inkling...) and he told me he thinks he's going to ask "the question" (his words, not mine).

At first I was a little disappointed that my dad said something to me, but I'm glad of it now. We were able to talk about some concerns he had before BF got there, and now I think he'll go easier on him.

But anyway. Way to go, Pops.

Yay!  Good luck, and *almost* congrats.

He didn't bring these concerns up earlier?  I thought it was pretty common knowledge that you guys were heading towards this path?

<div>No, of course we've talked about it before. But I guess its getting more tangible now, so we had to go over some things again.</div>

    Good job, Dad.

Did he say what his answer would be to "the question"?

This is really exciting! I've told my parents not to tell me when the the BF does it. But at least your dad was able to talk through his concerns with you,

My dad would totally do that ;)

IMO, it doesn't change much though - you'll still be surprised during the proposal (it sounds like it at least!) :)

Congrats this is a big step!  I'd love to be a fly on the wall when my dad meets with the 3 potential hubs of my sisters and me.  He's such a goofball.

Ha, Dads are funny!  I've actually heard of a Dad telling his daughter congrats before the BF actually got to the asking part -- whoops!

my dad did the same thing.  actually, he pulled me in on the conversation whenever my FI went to talk to him.  later i told my dad that FI really just wanted to talk to him, and all he said was, "oh...  i guess i got confused.  i thought he just proposed."

he actually proposed a week later.

but anyway, my dad felt kind of bad afterwards because he started telling everyone at work (we work at the same federal facility) that i was engaged when i wasn't engaged yet.

    i think he's still a little confused.  :)

My Dad would do this, if he didn't get uptight about 10 cent texts.

    Yay!  That's exciting.

My dad was so easy on FI.  I think this might be because my dad likes FI more than he likes me.

Ha ha ha. Luckly my dad kept his mouth shut about FI talking to him about proposing. At least he was able to discuss his concerns for you. I hope you don't have to wait to long either way to find out what your BF wanted to talk to your dad about.

My BF has to ask permission from my two nephews. That was our compromise on him wanting to ask and me really  not wanting him to ask my dad. my nephews will actually be way harder on him than my dad would be too! i would love to hear the conversation.
