I just tried red wine for the first time last week. I wasn't that fond of it.

That sounds fantastic.  Maybe I do that after I go to Michaels.  Except wine and cake. I bought a pre-made pound cake and put whipped vanilla icing on it and it's glorious.

There are lots of different kinds of reds, a lot of them are drier than white but you can find some pretty sweet reds. Blushes are pretty good too!

The best way to find what you like is go to a tasting bar, thats how I discovered that I just flat out like wine.  <img src="http://cdn.cl9.vanillaforums.com/downloaded/ver1.0/content/scripts/tinymce/plugins/emotions/images/smiley-wink.gif" border="0" alt="Wink" title="Wink" />

Bren - IMO red wine takes a little bit getting used to. I like Barefoot Sweet Red. In general shiraz is good to.

For white wines I usually drink moscato and reisling.

MMM.... cake. Yum. I have a few cake mixes in the pantry.

Ember - I have a large bottle of Barefoot Moscato in the fridge and I made some cookies on Wednesday. They are oatmeal, coconut, macadamia nut, white chocolate chip cookies.

That sounds really good right now.

Bren - give it time there are many varieties of reds, plus reds within wineries and varieties can be completely different. Don't give up too quick!

To be fair, it was on the train so it was cheap red wine from Spain. I think it was probably just too dry for me, like you guys suggested.
I did recently discover a love of sangria though. Yummmm. I figure there's hope for the wino in me yet.

I think that wine takes getting used to. I used to not like it so much, but now I'm a total wine snob and refuse to drink anything that isn't at least semi-dry.

I have finally developed a taste and appreciation for red wine.  It took a few years, and I stil prefer sweet white (reisling is my favorite) most of the time.

Speaking of sangria, have any of you guys tried the boxed wines from Target?  Before you laugh, they're actually pretty amazing for being boxed and cheap.  They have both red and white sangria boxes, too.  I LOVE them.

I make my own sangria.  I lived in Spain, and got the recipe from my favorite bar that I visited all the time (I used to get free sangria in exchange for English lessons, since the owner and waitstaff didn't speak English and so they didn't get much tourist business).

It's that time of the month, I just had a particularly grueling meeting about an upcoming event (you know the type where everything that hasn't been done is brought up and hashed out but absolutely no mention of all the many and significant accomplishments?  Yeah... that type of meeting).

I WANT WINE!  I WANT MILANO COOKIES!  I WANT OREOS!  I WANT NUTTER BUTTERS!  I WANT STARBUCKS MOCHA ICE CREAM!  I WANT AN ENTIRE ICE CREAM CAKE!

And a fork.  That's all.  Is that too much to ask for?!

Ditto oceana.  I really want wine (preferably my favorite viognier) and cookies (preferably chocolate chip fresh out of the oven, or my cream cheese sugar cookies).

I do, but it's on my other computer.  I'll try to dig it up and post later.

Edit: Found it.  Made a new post, because cookies *always* deserve more posts.

I love the boxed wine from Target! I love having the target wine at parties, I serve it in crafts, and even my snootiest of wine friend rave about the wine :)

I used to bar tend at some pretty high end places, so I learned all about 'good' (ie expensive) wine, and it turns out that the best kept secret is....wine does not have to cost a lot to be good. If you like it, then drink it. I have had some great wine that was $$$$ and some great wine that was dirt cheap. I tend to buy cheaper wines that I have never heard of, its a great way to try new things, and be on top of trends.

Also, if any of you ladies have a Trader Joes near by, their Vino Verde is TO DIE FOR, and under $4 a bottle.

Targets in MN can't sell wine. I wish I knew of this Target wine you speak of. I love Target. All we get here is 3.2 beer. Boo.
