Turkey Day Etiquette Question

We are going to our friends' house for the holiday. They live just down the street. Dinner is around 4 or so but they said we can come over any time. When we asked for a little more guidance, they said, "Eh, any time after 10." Apparently they basically eat and drink all day. (YES!!)

So what time do you show up? I'm thinking 1ish?

Right yaga? That's totally what I'm afraid of. In fact I'm sticking to wine.

I'd probably show up around 2.  I don't remember the last time I ate Thanksgiving dinner at the planned time, and 2-2.5 hours sounds like plenty of hang out time.

Agree that 1 sounds like a good time to show up. Also, I'm jealous that drinking is a part of your holiday...it's always been part of the day for me, but this year I have to work (@7pm), so I can't even have a glass of wine while cooking :( Hope you have lots of fun tomorrow! Sounds like it will be!

I'd say 2. They are sure to still be doing last minute things and I always ask, "Can I help?" and hosts/hostesses always say, "Oh No! Thank you so much, but I've got it." Then I feel like I'm sitting there drinking for 3 hours while they are running around putting the cheese plate out and doing all those little last minute things that need to get done.

Getting there at 2, or even 2:30 you won't have 3 hours to burn drinking, but it's still early enough to get there, get settled, have a glass or two, and help/chat before dinner, without a huge 3 hour gap.

    Have fun!

Jorja - What a bummer! Can you have a do-over sometime this weekend?? Leftover turkey and drinking?

Danie - I'm still on crutches so... no helping for me! :) My job for the day will be entertaining the pups (our girl and their dog are buddies so she gets to come along) and not spilling my drink. I am bringing pies, cookies and one side dish so I still feel like I contributed. :)

Votes are between 1 and 2. We'll see how we feel as the day goes on! Thanks girls.
