Christmas Already?

I just got an e-mail at work for our annual Cookie Exchange. I'm super excited about it, but have that "Really? Already?" reaction too. I'm trying to convince them to have a cookies with nuts exchange and a nut free cookie exchange as well.

Does your workplace do anything special for Christmas?

Do you participate in any Cookie Exchanges?

And, most important....any suggestions as to what I should make?

I think we're having a Christmas party, that I don't think I get to go to.  I think it's the same weekend as my mom's retirement (almost 30 years in the Army), so she wins.

I don't do the cookie exchange thing though.  We never did it growing up, and I don't really know anyone who does it.

    ETA:

I used to make these crazy chocolate-chocolate-chocolate cookies.   Clicky

I don't do anything that has to do with cookies for Christmas because I go overboard and eat way more than I should, lol. I used to get a huge platter of all different kinds of cookies with my ex's mom and I'd secretly throw them away when he wasn't looking because I didn't want to eat them and he wasn't eating them fast enough, lol.

We just got the invite for FI's work Christmas party. That I was excited for though, because it was really fun last year.

I participated in a cookie contest last year and it ended up being a popularity contest. :( My cookies totally should have won.

Not sure if the university is doing anything. ::shrugs::

ETA: Oh...and people were GAGA over these cookies- http://allrecipes.com/recipe/chocolate-mint-cookies-i/detail.aspx

But I've always thought there were some addictive quality in Andes Mints.

We have a huge company holiday party at Cipriani's in NYC.  We used to go out as a desk also but we didn't last year for some reason.  I hope we do this year because it's always to really great places & free haha

Food allergies stop me from participating in any sort of cookie exchange, but I remember my mom doing them when I was in elementary school.

I don't know what work is doing for Christmas this year. I don't think we're doing Secret Santa or anything like that, fortunately. I think I remember the clinic being decorated last year, but I usually try to forget Christmas exists, heh.

My office doesn't do a Christmas party but a friend of mine hosts one each year.

This is my favorite cookie recipe I've made: Red Velvet Cookies (I use less butter than Paula does, otherwise the filling just tastes like butter to me)

FI family does a cookie party Christmas night. Mmmm cookies!

My mom used to do cookie exchanges when we were kids and I was always excited for it.  But of course, she always ended up with a bunch of gross cookies and I would have rather ate the ones she baked to begin with.  LOL.

My company just goes to lunch one day for our 'Christmas Party', but that's reasonable since my company only has 4 employees.

DH's company Christmas party on the other hand is waaaayyyyy over the top and usually makes national news every year, so we'll definitely be attending that again this year.

I don't do this but my sister's workplace does and I am super jealous!

I would make the AMAZING looking applie pie cookies that rdr posted recently. I'm making them for Thanksgiving.

Also, Oreo balls are a big hit, and DELICIOUS. They're relatively easy.

These look fairly unique and fun -

And since I think pistachios are delicious on dessert foods -

These are my specialty cookies. Everyone loves them and begs me to make them. My boss threatened to fire me if I didn't make her a batch (jokingly). Sorry the font is huge. I copy and pasted from word and I don't know how to format it.

    GINGER CRINKLES

2 1/4 cups all purpose flour 2 teaspoons baking soda 1 teaspoon ground ginger 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon 1/2 teaspoon ground cloves 1 cup packed brown sugar 3/4 cup shortening or cooking oil            1/4 cup molasses 1 egg                                                               Oven 375     Stir together first 5 ingredients and 1/4 teaspoon salt. Combine the remaining ingredients and beat well. Add dry ingredients to beaten mixture, beating well. Form 1-inch balls. Roll in granulated sugar, if desired; place 2 inches apart on an ungreased cookie sheet. Bake in a 375 degree oven about 10 minutes.  Edit: I tend to add extra ginger and cloves because I like them a little spicier.

I think I'm jealous of everyone with workplaces that actually do something for the holidays.  Mine spends as little as possible (what I get for being in IT for insurance I guess) and doesn't do any of the exchanges or anything, other than every team is expected to buy their managers something (and in my team's case, we also pay for a gift for our director).

my work place doesn't do anything special, no holiday this year either.  We exchange gifts within the people in our team.

I just heard of cookie exchange last year and I love the idea of it! I guess my work has a party downtown and my unit will probably go to the casino for ours little party. I'm pumped because I haven't been allowed to the casinos due to my last job. Not sure what fi's work will be doing but I'm sure it will involve alcohol.
