man made vs. natural

So the BF and I were checking out rings online and he wanted to research man made diamonds cause he heard you could get a bigger one for the same price as a natural. Well after looking around a bit we decided to stick with the natural, I'm happy with what we can get for our price point. The truth is, I'm kind of wierded out by these sites that claim you can buy an incredibly huge rock for such a small amount. I would order a lot of things online, clothes, shoes, makeup....but a diamond? I don't know about that...What does NEY think? Natural vs. man made, which would you prefer?

True lab diamonds are small, hard to find, and expensive. Be careful. Most of what you're seeing is trickily-marketed CZ.

I think you are confused. Lab grown diamonds can only get to about half a carat.
    I'm not good at feelings.

Agree with PP's. A purchase of this size online is always tricky whether you do natural or not.

And since you decided to go natural (even if you hadn't) only buy online from some place that you can authenticate, that has a good return policy, and a good reputation like Blue Nile, etc. Look them up on Better Business Bureau. You don't want to take a chance when spending hundreds or thousands of dollars.

PPs are right. True lab-created diamonds are small and expensive. The  most common simulants are Moissanite or CZ. There's nothing wrong with either of those, either, if that's what you want.

I did not want to spend a large amount. We bought an expensive setting with a Lannyte (CZ) center. I'm happy with the result and that we spent $2k rather than $6k.

I'm completely new to the world of diamonds, but even so, I had reservations about the whole "man made are cheaper" thing. My Bf was clearly mislead by the people the has been talking to and these sites that make all these fantastic claims about huge diamonds in our price range. I'm glad we looked around and got that out of the way, phew! :)
I get to go on a ring scouting mission soon, very pleased I get to pick one at a store and not online. Guess he didn't have any grand plans for a design after all. Lol, he sure is illusive that man of mine!

Anyway...a lot of girls on here have moissanite. I'm more comfy with that than the lab-created diamonds because 1) it doesn't purport to be a real diamond and give you misleading information and 2) IT IS MADE TO RECREATE A ROCK FROM SPACE. Look into that!
