Not Engaged Yet

If you've planned your flowers and chosen your dress, but...

... you're not engaged, doesn't that qualify you to be labeled BSC?

So I have a question.  I haven't done any official planning yet.  I haven't called any venues, sampled any cakes, etc., but I've definitely thought a lot about what my "dream wedding" would look like.  Planned my flowers?  No, but I'm pretty sure what I want them to be like.  Picked my dress?  No, but I'm very guilty of compulsively watching shows like Say Yes to the Dress and browsing through the websites of my favorite designers.  I feel like dress-shopping, once that time comes, will be pretty quick and easy since I think I know what I want already.

Does that put me in the BSC category?  Undecided

I personally don't think so.  I think it's fairly normal to dream about your wedding... and those thoughts are certainly common once you actually start talking about it in realistic terms with the man you really think you'll marry.

But, I think actually having it all planned out is a different level.

I don't think that puts you in the BSC category, Elle.  It's one thing to look around and dream about what you want your wedding to look like (I think LOTS of girls do that) but it's another to start making calls and inquiries or booking things.

No. Most girls think about the things they like and don't like. And watch wedding shows. And post on wedding boards.

It's when you start booking things and picking out things (without your FI especially) and insist you're "really not engaged" that makes you BSC. You're mind will probably change too.

I don't think so... not in the way you've put it anyhow. I think the line separating the crazy from the dreamer is just that. You're dreaming not planning.

In the same regards I sometimes "shop" for my next car online. You know, try and think of the practicalities and styles, sometimes build different models. But do I go test drive them? No because I am not ready for that step yet.

I think that is overly eager but not quite BSC... that is assuming that you and your BF are in a very serious realtionship and have discussed your future, including marriage sometime in the near future.  I'm sure that you've posted about your relationship, I just don't recall it and I'm far too busy/lazy to go look it up right now!

Also, dress ideas are great... but the only way to tell what looks on YOUR body is to actually try them on your body.  I never thought I would like a trumpet style, but it makes my somewhat of a stick figure looks very curvy and I adore my dress!

ETA: I was in no way encouraging anyone to try on wedding dresses prior to engagement!

Yeah, I agreee with everyone else. You dont need to be engaged to watch wedding shows. That would make for a pretty small audience. I don't think dreaming or looking at pictures on the knot makes you crazy.

Just like the car example, I look at stuff on Target.com all the time I dont plan on buying. Knowing what you want does not make you BSC.... thinking you have your BFs consent to plan (and doing so) but his proposal is still actual validation to his affection... that is BSC

I don't see what asking a question about BSC has to do about being BSC.

Since you think everyone here judges, I'm going to judge you for judging the board.

Bren, I think that what Nikki was trying to say is that worrying about if someone else (esp. random internet strangers) thinks that you are crazy is,  in and of itself pretty crazy.  I have to agree with her on that... however I don't think that the OP was saying "OMG do you think I'm BSC?!"

I agree with Nikki on the fact that if you and your BF or FI are happy then that is all that matters.  My FI and I talked a lot about wedding and marriage stuff before getting engaged... even possible venues (he has a huge family and we were assuming a very tight budget).  The biggest thing is that WE discussed these things together and we did not go look at anything or even think of booking anything until we were actually engaged.  We also went pretty much straight into planning mode after getting engaged and I was told by girls here to slow down etc... but we were excited and it worked for us.  We have a lot of stuff done and booked and we are happy with where we are and having less to worry about in the coming months.   It's all about doing what works for you and your BF or FI.

I know what Nikki was saying, and I agree. You shouldn't need internet strangers to affirm your decision.

I do have a problem with posters who come out just to complain about how "judgemental" people are when I haven't seen any one judging in this thread. I think she had a poor way of saying what her point was.

I think I'll take this opportunity to introduce myself:

Hi, Fella and I have been together about a year and a half.
We looked at rings a month or so ago, and have been talking about marriage for a while before that.
I joined TK while looking at rings and such.  They are Nazis about it and won't let you look at the site without joining.

I have not booked my venue, ordered flowers, or even stepped into a wedding dress.  I do believe that would be BSC.
I have, however, googled like a maniac.  I have ideas, visions, things like that.  And it has been, up until about two weeks ago, a venture that The Fella and I have both been excited about.  I visited the venue I want, but it's an old place that has family history in it, and I hadn't seen it in years.  It's just fun to visit.

However, I've laid off the googling and discussing with him until after we are engaged.  My reasoning is, I don't want to ruin a proposal for myself, or steal his thunder in the planning of it.
Honestly, most of our focus was discussing marriage, not a wedding day anyway.

So, I knot.  I post on the boards, look at everyone's beautiful pictures, and things like that.
I am waiting patiently, no hurry, because I know the day will come.

I don't need anyone to confirm my sanity, I just want to say hello to all the girlfriends out there!

    BTW, I"m unofficially engaged!!!!

    KIDDING, put away the pitchforks.

    HI, yeah, not so much.
My very first post made me sound a little BSC.  It was mainly me being eager, though. Luckily, I posted it on my local board, and they were some very nice ladies who understood my excitement .

I suck at lurking, I'm a jump right in kind of person.  So I just post opinions that I think are appropriate for my "knowledge" and haven't really discussed my own relationship til know.

But that's it, I'm coming out of the closet.  I'm unengaged.  *GASP*
