Not Engaged Yet

I need thoughts/prayers/vibes

I don't really have the energy to get into it.  The briefest summary I can come up with is that my waitressing job has stopped making money, FI and I have over 10k left in wedding expenses to pay off in 9 months, we're broke, I've been looking for another job for over a month, and I'm so upset about this I'm slipping into a depression.

I feel physically ill right now and have been (unsuccessfully) fighting off the tears for 2 days.

Please pray for me.  I need all the prayer I can get right now.

I am so so sorry you're dealing with this Shoes :(

Are there any availabilities at Sephora or Ulta?  Or in the makeup section of a local department store?  That way you're doing something you really enjoy as well as making money.

How about bartending or being a cocktail waitress since you have experience with that?

Sorry if my suggestions are sucky, I'm not the best out of all of us with advice but those were just some things that popped into my head.

    Sending you great big :::hugs::::

Actually, I already applied to Sephora.  They interviewed me and then told me they weren't "continuing with the hiring process with me."

Then a week later, I bumped into a girl from my group interview.  She was sweet as pie, and probably has an IQ of around 80.  She got offered the job.

    No...I'm not kidding.

    WOW.

Sometimes I really really don't understand the hiring process at all.  That's super frustrating.

What about something like the MAC makeup counter at a Bloomingdales, or in an actual MAC store or some other brand you really like/use a lot & have a lot of knowledge on?

I'm so sorry you're going through this! Financial issues suck. If you're looking for just any job, I always had the most luck when I applied for jobs that were listed in the newspaper as opposed to online job searches. They must pay more or something to place the ad, because they called me back probably 80% more often than online or walk-ins did.

I hope you find something soon!

I'm sorry to hear that you are stressed Shoes!

Something will work out! Try not to worry too much, I know it is hard, but you are doing the best you can!

No, Peek, you didn't miss a post.  I either haven't heard anything back yet, or have been rejected.  My personal favorites:  1) FI's company won't hire me because they think having two engaged people working together would be weird, despite the fact that the HR manager dates Jeremy's co-worker.  2) I'm a company's #3 pick, so they'll call me if it doesn't pan out with #'s 1 and 2.

Shoes, what about trying Avon, mark, or Mary Kay? You'd be able to make a little extra money and you know enough about makeup to sell it.

Shoes- trust me I know what you are going through. Its super tough out there, but you truely are one tough lady. May I recommend checking out craigs list- esp the legal section. I know you are on the fence about law school, but you might be able to find a solo practitioner or a small firm that needs support  (clerk, assistant, secretary) staff. Volia- two birds one stone, you can see lawyers 'in the wild' and make some money. Also, retail stores will be stocking up for seasonal help soon, so just hit up the mall. Polo told me about Indeed.com, they are a good job search engine as well.

::Hugs:: sweetie, it will be ok. I'm sending good vibes your way!!

True story: I had an interview for a party store when I was dating my ex.  My ex worked there.  One of the FIRST questions they asked was "are you going to be able to work professionally with J there?"  THEN, after I gave the requisite "obviously, I'm mature enough to handle my emotions, and will do an awesome job for the company" they explained that they had to put a restraining order on a previous employee couple because they got into an all out brawl at the store one day.  Really, folks?  I'm not that psychotic.

Shoes, you will definitely be in my thoughts and prayers!  PP all have great suggestions but I know how disappointing/frustrating the job search can be.  It took me forever to get a job here...BUT maybe with the holiday season approaching, you can at least get some retail experience even if it's temporary?  Old Navy is the most fun retail experience application to apply for though - they make you take a TEST about like "does this shirt go with these pants".  It was good times.

Good luck and keep us posted!  Oh, and it's okay to cry :)  Get it all out and then knock out this job search process!  We'll all be here to commiserate if needed (or celebrate when needed!)
I guess, to tell you the truth, I've never had much of a desire to grow facial hair. I think I've managed to play quarterback just fine without a mustache. - Peyton

I'm not going to offer advice, because all of the ladies here are much better at it than I am. I can tell you that I know what it's like. Being a single mom of 2 kids with no child support can definitely put you through the ringer financially. It sucked.

I'm sorry you're going through this right now, just know that it will get better. Keep trying, you're one tough cookie and have faith that you weren't meant to have those jobs. Keep your head up!

    Sorry, i'll stop threadjacking now.

Shoes, a month isn't all that long to be looking. Chin up.

In terms of retail, apply and re-apply. When I was a manager at BN, we didn't go back through old apps. When we wanted to hire someone, we usually found someone in the applications from the past week or two. We got so many apps we rarely had to look further back than that. It is all about timing. So apply and apply again in two weeks. Eventually you'll hit someone at the right time. Keep at it.

    GL!
