Hair (UPDATE 1)

I'm thinking of going dark. I've been getting highlights for a while so my hair's pretty blonde right now.  Now that we're saving for the wedding I won't really be able to afford to continue getting highlights & my roots are starting to show pretty badly (had them done in August).

So I'm considering going darker.  My natural color is a dark blonde/light brownish so I'm thinking of going back to that. I'm really nervous about it though because I haven't been dark in a really really long time. And also, this is the longest my hair has been since I was in 2nd grade. My mom loves my hair dark because she says it makes my "blue eyes pop".

What do you guys think?

Here's what it looks like now (sorry about the bathroom in the background LOL I'm at work!)

I think it would look good on you. I like how when my hair is darker it makes my blue eyes pop as well. you just have to remember it takes forever to grow out if you don't dye it back to your natural color. I just got back to my natural color this summer after being darker for a couple years and growing it out for a year or two.

Dark would be super pretty. Just dont go TOO dark off the bat or you might be shocked and not like it. You should post some pics of what you are considering!

    Ely -- Thank you :)

Swhite -- I'm thinking of doing it myself & getting a color that's really close to my natural. Underneath in the back is all my natural color because I've only been getting partial highlights so I have that to compare it to.  I guess if I hate it I can always just go to the salon & have them put highlights in again LOL

I LOVE dark hair and blue eyes! I always go dark in the fall/winter and love the look. I'm extremely pale though so my blue eyes always stand out with that hair, unfortunately I end up looking sick because of being so pale and have to go a little bit lighter than I would prefer.
I say go for it! Nothing too much darker than your natural since it will be a shock, but I think it will look amazing with your skin tone and match your eyebrows well.

Also, we have a lot of blue eyed people on this board, haha.

I think you will look amazing with darker hair. If I were you, I would go all-out brunette. You have great coloring for it, and your mom is right - your eyes will really pop.

If you do it yourself, I recommend a semi-permanent color. My favorite is Clairol Radiance Colorgloss (available at Sally's). It runs dark, though, so pick one to two shades lighter than you actually want to go.

Also, remember that it's easier to go darker than lighter. Err on the side of too light. In the Clairol, I'd say start with a level 8 or 8 mixed with 6.

I think it would look great dark!  If you're going to do it yourself, start with one or two shades darker than what you have.  If you're trying to decide between 2 colors, go with the lighter one.  This way, you can go darker if you want, but it's a pain in the a$$ to go lighter once you color your hair dark.

Let us know what you decide!

    WOW!!

OK, you've convinced me!  I'm going to do it. I wonder if I'll have time to do it tonight before the Devils game.... If not maybe I'll do it when I get home tonight.

You guys have me so excited about it I want to go do it right now!

I also love dark hair and light eyes. SO pretty! But since you've been blonde for a long time, i'd go lighter brown with, as someone already said, semi permanent just to make sure you don't hate it. Especially if you're doing it at home.

Good luck! And like bling, pics or it didn't happen!!!

I am naturally super light blonde but I was REALLY dark for about three years. I started going back to blonde last spring, and was back to my natural color by Christmastime. I actually just dyed it myself a couple weeks ago to a light ashy brown (it came out a little lighter, and a little ashier than I wanted) and I will probably go darker soon. I also have really blue eyes, and a lot of people really liked me with dark hair.

    Me blonde:

    Me in between:

    Me brunette:

And yes - this last one is professional, haha!

Bri -- I really really like you dark!  It looks so natural on you, I can't believe you're naturally so light!

  • edited December 2011
Thanks... I really miss it... I feel a box of dark dye coming soon, haah!

I feel like your complexion is similar to mine, just going by that picture - from experience, I would go "warm." The color I picked this time was "cool" and I don't think it works all that well. But, I figure, it was an $8 box of Feria... so if I want to change, I can do it! Better than what I was paying to get it done professionally before (every six weeks, religiously, or I looked like a skunk with a bright blonde streak down my head!)

rdr... I think I'd even go a touch darker on you and definitely get a bit warmer of a color since your skin has more red undertones. I have olive skin so I usually go a bit more cool in my color.

ETA: like this... A nice brown with kind of a golden tone to it :)

    I think I do too.

I think #2 makes me look washed out.

And #3 the same plus it's really, really dark & that scares me.

Now I just have to figure out what box of dye will get me those results hahaha

I feel like this one looks different in the swatch on the bottom then what it looks like on the box... but the color on the swatch is the one I like.

This is the color I went with, and I think it's too "cool" for my complexion... but I like a lot of Feria's color options.

I'm going to ride over to Target after work & buy something.

I'll keep my eye out for "golden" & "warm".

    THANKS EVERYONE!!!!
