Newbie Too!

I just saw DaniMarie88's newbie post, and decided that I would be brave & start posting too. I've been a lurker for a while, and I am hoping that I fit in & can make some fun new internet friends!

I am 30, and currently live in Upstate NY - but I grew up in Maine, and am trying to find a job so I can move "home." I went to college in Connecticut, and have lived in NY ever since - it just feels like it's time to go back closer to my family. My BF & I have a fun little story - we "dated" when we were in high school (15 & 16 years old), before either of us had a driver's license or anything. Neither of us remembers why we "broke up." We fell out of touch after that, hadn't spoken in about 12 years, till we reconnected on Facebook. It started as a "we should go to dinner" - ended up being a date, and we've been together ever since. He works on the road, so we are long distance, but we are beyond happy.

I'm looking forward to seeing what being a an active part of this board brings!

Hi Bri!  I love your story about reconnecting with your BF.  Cute.

Favorite and least favorite NEY posters?

    Thoughts on Harry Potter?

    Favorite wine?

Sweet!  It's tough getting a job in a specific location these days, so my advice is to be patient (we've been in VA for several years now because of this, haha).  I love the story about reconnecting with your BF!

What's your favorite thing to cook?  Recipes are bonus points.

What do you do for fun?  I craft, a lot.  I'm kinda a crafting addict.

Thanks! We come from a very small town, so it's funny to reactions from people who have known us for a long time. Our families love each other too, so it has been absolutely amazing.

I don't think I have a least favorite poster (yet!), but I like Yaga and (no, I'm not trying to suck up) you had me had the Harry Potter sig.

Which should answer your next question. I own every book (in hardcover) & have read them more times that I can count. I cried when Dumbledore died in the movie, even though I knew it was coming, and cheered in the theatre when Neville killed Nagini.

My favorite wine is wine. Although I'm partial to a nice glass of Relax Reisling, or, if I'm in a red mood, shiraz.

It's definitely tough on the job front - it's getting very frustrating. I feel like I'm qualified for so many jobs (I work in PR) and then I don't even get a rejection letter! I'm trying to keep my head up & stay positive - but it's nice knowing I'm not the only one & that we can support each other!

My favorite thing to cook is chicken or steak fajitas... so easy, but the BF & I love them. I have a few recipes I can share... I make a killer banana bread (my grandmother's recipe, naturally).

I like to scrapbook & do some crafty things like that - I wish I had more time. I am obsessed with Pinterest & I find things on there every day that I want to try. I can't wait to have a house to decorate & DIY away on. I'm also slightly artistic, so I like to draw, and love to write - one of my life dreams is to be a published author.

I do have one cat - his name is Brady. BF has a teacup chihuahua (don't ask, haha) named Trixie. I am a big dog kind of girl, but I have fallen in love with that little monster.

Here's Brady, waking me up in the morning.

Just kidding! I think you're all funny & witty & give good advice. I just read something from yaga on another post, so you were in my head :-)

I haven't read Hunger Games - I have heard good things though.

I love football. I always say my favorite sports are football & the Red Sox, haha. I'm a die hard Patriots fan, but I will watch any football game, college or pro, no matter who is playing. It's just a fun sport to watch.

I am a beer drinker - it's fall, so I'm currently loving my Shipyard Pumpkinhead (it's a Maine beer, but I found a distributer I can get it from in NY!). Otherwise, I love Guinness, Yuengling, Sam Adams or blueberry beer from Boston Beer Works.

Keep the questions comin'! I love this!

Well, bsidebella, funny story there. I just updated my iPhone to iOS5, and lost almost 1,600 songs, so I'm currently boycotting listening to the 140 songs left on it.

However, on Slacker Radio, my last three were "Somebody LIke You" - Keith Urban, "Gimme That Girl" - Joe Nichols, and "All-American Girl" - Carrie Underwood. It's a country day.

Hello! What part of Maine are you from? I have family in Maine, and I love, love, love it there-we used to go every summer, but I haven't been in a couple years?

Also, I'm going to have to ask how your BF ended up with a chihuahua.
    image
  • edited December 2011
Muahaha. "Normal" is a relative term. However, I think I'll fit in nicely around here, so if that makes me normal, fabulous!

jorja - would it surprise you if I told you the chihuahua came from his last relationship? No? I didn't think so. The dog is currently with the ex-gf, because he is traveling for work and my job doesn't give me time to care for a dog (which is why I have a cat). However, I think when I get a new job that has regular-people hours, he's going to have to make a decision - let her have the dog, or take the dog. I don't want to share custody for the next 12+ years. But we'll cross that bridge when it comes.

And yes, I am a die-hard Sox/Pats fan, but I'm not a pink-hat wearing, bandwagon, obnoxious fan, I promise. Keep in mind, I live in New York as a Boston/New England fan, so I'm used to the hatred.

Nooooo... bad memories!! I think you'll think I'm okay though, because my favorite baseball player of all-time is Cal Ripken, Jr. I love that man. My college boyfriend went to Johns Hopkins & was supposed to take me to an Orioles game so I could see him play... and then he retired. I'm still sad I never saw him in real-life action.

What kind of beer are you brewing?

Nice! I'm a lifelong upstater myself, but I moved here from further west (near where the Baseball Hall of Fame is, if you're familiar) for college...geez it was almost 10 years ago. LOL. And like you, I never left. :) Moving to New England would be awesome, but I think I'm pretty married to the Capital Region now. Particularly since I'm marrying a guy from Saratoga.

I will ignore your choice of baseball team in favor of being happy to have somebody local around the board. ;)
