Do you SEE your weightloss? (questionnaire)

So, I was looking at some pics this weekend and it got me thinking about body image. About a year ago I lost over 30 lbs. At the time I knew that I'd lost 4 sizes and I was feeling better about my body...but I was still pretty critical about myself. I then gained a lot of the weight back and am now working on it. Comparing the pics of then and now, I was clearly thinner and healthier. How could I not see it at the time though? Why did I still feel like a 16 when I was a 10? Here are some questions I was contemplating this weekend...

-Do you think it takes longer for you to see your weightloss on your body than on the scale?

-Do you get frustrated when the scale is showing a substantial loss, but you're not seeing it in the way your clothing fits?

-Do you think you'll truly be happy with your body when you get to your ideal weight?

-Do you feel you notice the weightloss successes of others more than your own?

Re: Do you SEE your weightloss? (questionnaire)

• -Do you think it takes longer for you to see your weightloss on your body than on the scale?
I think it is easiest to see in how clothes fit. I think pictures can be misleading. Like there were lots of pics of me when I was heavier, where it doesn't show as much and pictures of me now, 20 lbs lighter lookin' overweight.

-Do you get frustrated when the scale is showing a substantial loss, but you're not seeing it in the way your clothing fits?
I dunno if I experienced this....

-Do you think you'll truly be happy with your body when you get to your ideal weight?
Nope.

-Do you feel you notice the weightloss successes of others more than your own?
No... but I love that WW commerical where Jennifer Hudson is singing next to herself before? What a contrast!

• -Do you think it takes longer for you to see your weightloss on your body than on the scale?

Yes. I don't really think this is opinion either, it's pretty much fact. For me I don't really start to see a difference until I've lost 20-30 lbs even if I'm going down sizes.

-Do you get frustrated when the scale is showing a substantial loss, but you're not seeing it in the way your clothing fits?

Yes. That is extremely frustrating.

-Do you think you'll truly be happy with your body when you get to your ideal weight?

I hope so. I'm going to counseling to help with my body image.

-Do you feel you notice the weightloss successes of others more than your own?

Not really, but I don't really know anyone IRL who is attempting any sort of dramatic weight loss.

• -Do you think it takes longer for you to see your weightloss on your body than on the scale?

I would say that yes it takes me longer to see it physically in myself than to see it on the scale. I think its because I look at myself everyday and so I can't really tell the difference.

-Do you get frustrated when the scale is showing a substantial loss, but you're not seeing it in the way your clothing fits?

I do get discouraged that I can't see it but I don't let it get to me. I just go on about my business.

-Do you think you'll truly be happy with your body when you get to your ideal weight?

My body in general I'm happy right now about, its my stomach that I don't think I'll ever be happy with, I may be ok with it when I get to my goal but not happy.

-Do you feel you notice the weightloss successes of others more than your own?

Well I see weightloss in my FI more acutely than I do myself. But I don't pay attention to others as well to notice weightloss unless its substantial weightloss.
• I'm answering the questions first (so I'm not biased!) then coming back to read.

-Do you think it takes longer for you to see your weightloss on your body than on the scale?
I'm not sure, honestly.

-Do you get frustrated when the scale is showing a substantial loss, but you're not seeing it in the way your clothing fits?
YES. I'm not quite so worried about the scale, I just want my clothes to fit. and I know a general range (within 3-4 lbs) of where my weight should be, based on the past, for my clothes to fit the way I like them to. if my clothes fit but I weigh a little more, then I really don't care. I just want to FEEL good and have clothes that fit well.

-Do you think you'll truly be happy with your body when you get to your ideal weight?
honestly, probably not. I'll still have things I don't like about myself. but I'll feel more confident having some clothes to pick from and being back in my regular size.

-Do you feel you notice the weightloss successes of others more than your own?
probably so.
• -Do you think it takes longer for you to see your weightloss on your body than on the scale?
Definitely. I am currently down 11 lbs and I don't really see it. I guess my waist is a bit slimmer....but overall I think "11 lbs sure doesn't look like that much". I agree with Beth, I notice it more at 20-30 lbs lost.

-Do you get frustrated when the scale is showing a substantial loss, but you're not seeing it in the way your clothing fits?
I have a feeling I was wearing things that were too tight to begin with. I just don't see a big difference in how clothes fit yet...and that is frustrating. At 11 lbs lost I feel like I should be down a whole size already, but maybe that's just not realistic.

-Do you think you'll truly be happy with your body when you get to your ideal weight?
I so badly want to say yes...but knowing how I felt last time, I don't believe I will. I am overly critical about my body no matter how often people tell me I look great. I would like to appreciate my body NOW. No matter what weight or size I am. It's something I'm working on.

-Do you feel you notice the weightloss successes of others more than your own?
Yes. There are a couple women at my gym who have lost weight recently. I feel I notice their successes more than my own. Even when they say they see my success, I still only see the numbers...not my own physical changes. I think it's easier to see other people than yourself sometimes.
• -Do you think it takes longer for you to see your weightloss on your body than on the scale?
Yep, definitely.

-Do you get frustrated when the scale is showing a substantial loss, but you're not seeing it in the way your clothing fits?
I will admit I definitely get hung up on the number. When I lost all my weight a couple years ago though, I was happy with the number & I was super stoked to fit into certain things that I couldn't previously. I've lost 2.6 lbs in 2 weeks & I don't feel any different. It's only been 2 weeks though so I know it's not the time to get frustrated yet.

-Do you think you'll truly be happy with your body when you get to your ideal weight?
I think so. When I got down to 137 I was ecstatic. My ultimate goal is 135 so I imagine I'll be very happy there too.

-Do you feel you notice the weightloss successes of others more than your own?
I think I'm most critical on myself. Also, I see myself every single day so I'm not prone to noticing. Whereas if I see someone once a week I'll notice it easier on them.

• Do you think it takes longer for you to see your weightloss on your body than on the scale?
I know at first I didn't feel like I was seeing the results in my clothing so the scale was a visual for me to see that some progress was taking place. I tend to gain weight uniformly over my whole body, I don't gain in one area so it takes a good 10lbs before I see any change in my clothing.

-Do you get frustrated when the scale is showing a substantial loss, but you're not seeing it in the way your clothing fits?
Actually I am the opposite. Sometimes I get so incredibly fixated on the number on the scale that even though my clothes fit a certain way i am irritated at myself for not reaching this illusive number. It's not healthy I know.

-Do you think you'll truly be happy with your body when you get to your ideal weight?
I was pretty darn close to my ideal weight (within 5lbs) and I was happy. I like my clothing size, Iliked my shape, I felt pretty and sexy and I also felt healthy and strong. I fell out of good habits over the Christmas holidays and I am pushing hard to get myself back to that because I really felt great for the first time about myself.

-Do you feel you notice the weightloss successes of others more than your own?
I try not to focus too much on what others are doing because we are all so different. Our lifestlye, our eating habits, our bodies are way too different to compare apples to apples if you will. I try to stay focused on myself and my own goals. For example i bought a pair of pants in a size 4 (a dream size for me) and tried them on about every 3 weeks. It kept me motivated to closer I got. i finally did get in to them and I was walking on air LOL

Losing weight and keeping it off is a daily struggle for me. I've lost 50lbs twice and I am determined to stay healthy and active. I think the difference for me this time around is age (I'm older and wiser now ha!) and I focused on other goals than JUST losing weight and looking hawt. I started running races and pushing myself beyond what I thought I could do. I started taking cycle classes and kick boxing classes. I became more of an athlete instead of a cardio junkie just trying to burn off everything I ate that day. Honestly once my outlook on physical health changed, it was much easier to get to the gym, to run outside and to lose the weight. My body also changed in ways that it didn't the first time around because I incorporated weights and redefined my shape. I think once you decide you want to be healthy and not at a certain number on the scale you start to appreciate how you feel...or maybe its just that as i get older I am less vain and don't care what people think anymore! hehe

Absofrickenloutely. I was a size 10...and now I'm a size 18. And I honestly don't feel that different. It's awful. I look at a skirt I used to wear and think, "How in the world did that EVER fit?!"

-Do you get frustrated when the scale is showing a substantial loss, but you're not seeing it in the way your clothing fits?
Totally. I have literally lost 20 pounds and my clothes feel exactly the same. I have NO idea where that 20 pounds came off of.

-Do you think you'll truly be happy with your body when you get to your ideal weight?
I don't know if I have an idea weight anymore. I really just want to be active, eating well, enjoying the seasons...I want to be healthy. If I'm healthy at 175 and that's the weight my body seems to want to maintain...I'm fine with that.

-Do you feel you notice the weightloss successes of others more than your own?
Every single time.

-Do you get frustrated when the scale is showing a substantial loss, but you're not seeing it in the way your clothing fits? My clothing is falling off but the scale says not so fast buster!

-Do you think you'll truly be happy with your body when you get to your ideal weight? I already feel better so, yes.

-Do you feel you notice the weightloss successes of others more than your own?

YES!

I actually think I can see the changes in body at the same time as I see changes on the scale. It might just be a mental thing, but when I know I've lost a couple pounds, the person in the mirror looks thinner to me, too.

I never really experience a disparity between the changes on the scale and the changes in how my clothes fit. I have a narrow frame, though, so a pound or two either way makes a big difference in my overall size. I can only gain or lose about 3 pounds before I need new jeans.

I think I'll be happy. I'm much happier with my body now than I was when I was 13 pounds heavier. If I ever actually get down to my 120-lb goal, I imagine that I'll be content. If I'm not, this is my solemn request to you guys to knock some sense into me.

No, definitely not. I judge myself with a much more critical eye than I judge others, so I don't notice others' losses (or gains) until they become pretty obvious.

OMG this. I used to be a size 3/4 and now I'm a size 16/18. I've seen clothes I used to wear and was shocked.

Do you think it takes longer for you to see your weightloss on your body than on the scale?
Definitely. I've lost 16 pounds so far and I think that is a lot but I haven't really been able to tell yet. Maybe it's because I have so much to go.

Do you think you'll truly be happy with your body when you get to your ideal weight?
I know I will be. Being at this weight for almost 2 years now has really changed my perspective on health. I can't wait to be fit and healthy again. Once I reach my goal, I know I'm going to feel great. I can't wait to feel great again.

Do you feel you notice the weightloss successes of others more than your own?
Sometimes. But mostly I'm very critical of myself.

• -Do you think it takes longer for you to see your weightloss on your body than on the scale?
Yes, but I'm also down only 6lbs so far, not 10+.

-Do you get frustrated when the scale is showing a substantial loss, but you're not seeing it in the way your clothing fits?
As stated above, it's not substantial, but I also can't see any difference whatsoever, which is discouraging.

-Do you think you'll truly be happy with your body when you get to your ideal weight?
Nah, because I think it's human nature (especially for women, who are conditioned about their appearances) to never be quite satisfied. In my own case, even if I lose the belly (which is the only thing that bugs me), I'd still be bothered by my acne.

-Do you feel you notice the weightloss successes of others more than your own?

I don't think I notice this stuff a lot, even in other people. Of course, there are the dramatic celebrity ones, like the ladies who mentioned Jennifer Hudson.
