Hey everyone! I'm Ashley! As you can tell I'm new here so I figured I'd come and say hey so...hey!

My boyfriend and I started looking at rings a few weeks ago and have decided on a date for the wedding (April 20, 2013!) but are not officially engaged yet. We are a little traditional and he wants to ask my parents first.

From what I gather it's all happening in December. Can't wait!

    Welcome. I hope you're not attached to that date. So many things can change between now and then. And you aren't even engaged yet! Stick around and keep the BSC down. Tell us more about YOU!

    Pets? Favorite Books? Favorite cheese? How long have you and SO been together? What do you do for a living?

    I feel like I'm on an awkward first date.

    Ashley,

    I truly hope you are not my sister (although she's convinced the ring is coming in November, so it's unlikely.)  In other news, you have seen already that you will probably not be received well if you're pre-planning your wedding (even a simple thing as the date!)

    I would also rethink the date as all I remember about April 20th is that it's the anniversary of the Columbine shootings.

    Oh yea, and it's 4/20.  I dunno, just not the most amazing date, in my opinion.

    BUT, for pete's sakes, rethink the date with your fiance AFTER he is actually your fiance.

    OP, ffs... you're not engaged until the two of you agree you are. If he wants to wait to be traditional, then you are NOT engaged. There is no such thing as "unofficially engaged" Please deter from using this phrase, ever. period.

    Now that we are past that... how do you feel about sushi? wine? Potatoes? Harry potter? Favorite fruit. Favorite quote?

    Ok- busting this out again:

    The Rules:

    1) All that is required for two partied to be engaged is an EXPRESS AGREEMENT BY BOTH PARTIES that they want to get married on an expressly stated date.

    A. If you have a ring, you are engaged.

    B. If you BOTH consider yourselves to be engaged, you are engaged, regardless of having set an express date, so long as it is the intention of BOTH parties to set a date in the future.

    C. Secret engagements are invaild.

    2) If one party has stated that more than this express agreement is required (such as a ring, parents blessing, degree, set amount of money saved), then you ARE NOT ENGAGED. You are not engaged to be engaged, pre- engaged, almost engaged or unofficially engaged.* You ARE in a loving, committed relationship with the person you plan to spend the rest of your life with. Deal with it. 

    3) Discussion of 'possibly' getting married in Month/Year and "kind of talking about wedding stuff" does not equal an engagement if there is no express agreement between you and your SO. You are required to STOP ALL PREPLANING AT ONCE. 

    4) If you cannot afford rent/food/car insurance/any other life necessity, YOU CAN NOT AFFORD A WEDDING**. You and/or your SO need to have a LONG talk about finances right away. This is the most pressing issue, not what you want your wedding colors to be. If you are not capable of talking to your SO about money, you should not be talking about getting married. 

    5) If you are young enough to tell the wise and learned ladies of NEY that "You're soooooo mature for your age", you are not. Maturity does not need to be asserted, it needs to be reflected in words and thoughts. You are too young to be getting married. 

    6) If you have not graduated High School yet or earned your GED (and you are not a Troll or MUD), go do your homework. NOW.

    I actually think the "unofficially engaged" drama is overrated. Can you be unofficially engaged? No. Do I care if you drop that one in your first post? Not really.

    But mentioning colors for a wedding that might never happen? A whole litter of kittens just died.

    There is nothing traditional about picking a date and colours for the wedding before he's proposed. Nothing at all.

    I would like to recommend moving the cart back behind the horse where it belongs.

    Bahahaha. I'm so glad I'm normal and not BSC. Although, I have to admit, seeing the reactions to the BSC is almost worth having one come it to visit every now & again.

    The headdesk cat makes me laugh. A lot. Probably too much.

    Maybe she's helping control the pet population. 

    It would be easier to spay and neuter. 

    OP, congrats on your engagement, but keep in mind 18 months to plan is a really long time. I was engaged for 9 and by 1 week out, I just wanted it to be OVER.
