I've been wondering the same thing, and wondering where Cate is. Wedding planning must be taking up all of her time... lucky girl! :)

Hey ladies!  Aww, thanks for thinking of me!!!  Well, they couldn't find the ring that was discontinued and sold out.  Bummer, got my hopes up!  So then we decided to custom make our own ring and started that process.  So we got the diamond appraised so we could have it ready for the custom made ring...

And low and behold, the jewelry store where we had it appraised had the cutest setting that caught my guy's eye, so he asked me to try it on.  It fit so perfectly, I didn't want to take it off!  It's nothing like what I thought I wanted, but I absolutely love it!  The price was definitely right, and we placed my diamond in it and it fit perfectly!  Even the jeweler said it looked like it was MADE for that size diamond!!! (ETA: Yes, I know jewelers are sales people so will butter you up, but in this case, she was previously explaining that they could put a new prong setting on to fit my diamond as most settings would probably be too small).

So they deducted the cost of the appraisal if we bought the ring, and then discounted a matching wedding band - all together, the appraisal, engagement ring, and band is LESS than what we would have spent on the custom engagement ring!

So he's buying it sometime this week, and then we'll see when he gives it to me!  I'll definitely AW it when I get it on my finger.  In the meantime, I've been really good about not biting my nails and got a shellac manicure so for at least 2 weeks, I've got perfect nails.  And I plan to get another shellac manicure after that... from now until forever, if it keeps my nails looking this good!

ETA:  Here's a picture of my great-grandma's ring before we had it altered - the jewelry store is also taking that fascinator (the sunburst like pattern around the center stone) and welding it together (sans center stone) so we can make it into a necklace for my Mom!  It'll be one of her MOB gifts, and I'm sure she'll cry when I give it to her since she'll have part of her grandma's ring she can always wear.

That is a fantastic idea with the necklace. i cannot wait to see the pictures of your e-ring/wedding band. Sometimes, those things just all fall into place!

Finally, are those your nails in the picture of the ring? They look amazing? I've also been good at keeping up with my nails. I keep nail files in every purse and desk drawer so there's one close by if I need it. Though now I'm kind of addicted to them looking nice, so I don't even want to bite them!

    Thanks girls!  We're really excited.

@eKath - yes!  Shellac is the BEST!!!  I teach sailing on Sundays, and it was particularly rough this week and I would have normally had several broken nails (and a totally ruined manicure) but they still look fantastic!

@cu97tiger - my nails are even longer now - that was from 2 weeks ago before I got the manicure and before I dropped off the ring to be appraised.  I'm loving having pretty nails!

So excited for you that you found the ring and it was less than having one custom made!

Also, love the necklace for your mom idea.  Very sweet.

Cate, I love that cool sunburst design on the old ring--very cool that it'll be made into a necklace. Can't wait to see your ring when you get it! So exciting!
