style & fashion

where do you draw your fashion and style from?

a celebrity?  a co-worker?  a magazine?  a store?  a style icon?

are you classic or trendy?  do you gravitate to bright colors, or neutrals?

or post a picture of your coveted fall fashion formula!

I'll go first:

I window shop at jcrew, anthropologie, banana republic.  I tend to actually buy clothes at target, old navy, kohls.  when I have extra spending money, I'll shop at the gap, and browse the sales at jcrew and anthro.

I really like Mrs. Obama's style.  it's so clean-cut and fresh and classic.

I've recently gotten out of a style rut, thanks to DH.  I used to be afraid to mix and match colors, patterns, and textures...  but now getting dressed is (usually) a fun experience!  well, unless I really need to do laundry.  then it's a pain.  :)

my go-to style is an a-line skirt, a cami, a cardi, and fancy sandals or flats.  sometimes I'll throw on a pair of heels for a date.

I love these looks for fall:

http://www.loft.com/loft/outfitdetail/LF11006M/Long-Sleeve-Peplum-Jacket-with-Ruffle-Trim/cat520066/263874

but I don't have a jacket like that!!  I guess that's what I need to start looking for.

I'm really interested in hearing all about YOUR style and sense of fashion!  I've only recently even become interested in it, so it's fun to see how much (or how little) other people care about their clothing and accessories.  plus, it's really slow at work (with all the furloughs going on in the DOT) so it'll keep me entertained.

it's been dead around here, so please post away!

This is going to sound cliche, but I guess the "celebrity" whose style I most identify with is Kate Middleton. I have always thought of my style as 'classic' and then when she started getting so much media coverage for her style, I realized that is pretty much what I would wear if I could afford it. I tend to go for neutrals (a lot of black and white) with the occasional blue. I looove fall jackets. If it could be fall all the time, I would love it because it is the best season for my style. Boots, sweaters and cute jackets are my favorite!

Unfortunately, it is really hard to find affordable clothes (Target, Kohl's, etc...) that fit me because I am taller and thin with long arms. More expensive brand names fit me better (Guess, BCBG) because they tend to make them longer without getting wider, but I can't afford to make those my style regulars =(

I have three fall coats that I love and can't wait to wear them =D If I only had to dress for Fall for the rest of my life, I would be good. I love boots, sweaters, and cute jackets.

This white wool coat from Guess is my favorite, I can't find any better pics of it!

I'd say my style is eclectic boho chic with a barbie twist. lol I'm not sure who I look at most for style but I like Kim Kardashian for going out, we are built similar except I'm taller, and I like Kate Hudson and Rachel Zoe for the rest of the time. I like to wear fun jewelry and funky clothes. A lot of leggings and maxis for being confmy and wide leg pants and cuts offs for casual and lots fo silk and such for dressy. I love Michael Kors and Gypsy05, I tend to shop most at Nordtrom, Target, and CHA, a boutique a friend of mine owns. Also my sister works at Talbots so I get some good basics there.

Here are some outfits I'd wear and stuff I want for fall:

I love the first and second pictures you posted CCO!

swhite - I am very short and sleeves/hems are always way TOO long on me!  so I understand your pain.  I just roll up my sleeves most of the time, and DH has talked me into seeing a tailor about fixing some of my things to make them more petite-friendly...  I also really like the trench you posted!

I would love something like this for winter:

my style is classic with a twist towards "whimsy"

Anthropologie is my favorite store for dresses but some of their other pieces can be too "boho" for me.  I gravitate to neutral colors, my wardrobe staples are black, white, grey and navy.  However I always try to add a pop of color with my neutrals.

I too love Kate Middleton's style, but I would not call her my style icon or anything.  I just go towards what I like usually

Thanks swhite2012 for posting all those jackets!!!...that might be my biggest weakness...I mean does one girl really need a closet full of various coats-but I so have at least 10 haha.

I would say I'm classic...love my pearls and B&W. I mostly dress in neutrals, but I love a pop of color from a scarf, shoes or a long necklace. I love pencil skirts for work...and I'm almost always in a white shirt! My favorite stores are Kohl's, NY&CO, TJMaxx, Ross and (if i'm splurging) Ann Taylor. Here are some typical "me" styles:

Where do you draw your fashion and style from? I really don't. I just shop around and buy things I like. I also take mental notes about other people I see walking around if they're wearing something I like.

Are you classic or trendy?  Do you gravitate to bright colors, or neutrals? I'd say I'm more classic than trendy - I can't be bothered to keep up with trends, and I'm from a more rural area, so we don't really get trends the same way a urban locale does. I tend to stick to more neutral colours, but I like to have one bright piece on everyday.

This summer, I've been rocking dresses with flats on the daily. I have a nice selection now, in various styles. I usually add a cardi for the office. I usually feel pretty awesome when I walk out the door in the morning, but my outfits are still simple and comfy. (Except today - I'm wearing 4 year old plaid Bermuda shorts - we're cleaning out the office, and I feel like a major slob/child.)

For fall, I want to pick up a couple of new blazers - I'm seeing them all over the mall right now, and I love the look. I like straight or skinny pants/jeans with boots when it's cold, and flats when it's not-so-cold (or in the office). I also love scarves. Like, a lot. I'm all about the layers too.

Sorry to be a PW on this, I just really an psyched for Fall fashion. Dang hot weather...

I really want these Guess boots, but I don't know if I can spend $60 on over the knee boots that I will probably only wear a couple times, but they're so pretty!

Beads - I have TONS of scarves, but the past couple years I haven't worn them much because I can't figure out to tie them anymore.  I used to never have a problem with it, so I don't know what's going on!  how do you tie your scarves?

I don't really tie them - just kinda wrap them around once and leave the rest to dangle.

Some people seem to be able to tie them up in pretty ways, but I've never really tried to learn. I bet you could find something on YouTube.

<div>When I wear scarves, I usually fold it in half and then loop the end through, kind of like a slipknot I guess?</div><div>
</div><div>I am really upset because last winter I somehow lost my favorite scarf. It was just plain black cashmere that I took from my mom because she didn't wear it. I don't know where it disapeared to. The last time I had it I was in my apartment! I think there is a black hole in my apartment, because FI has also lost a couple things (clothes) that are just GONE! And it's not a big place. I want to get a new scarf, but cashmere is just so darn expensive!</div>

I've been doing something similar to the b&w checkered scarf in the 3rd row here...
Honestly though, some scarves I always tie a certain way and it's not the same for every scarf. I like to get creative with them.

It's funny you say that. I sold shoes at Dillards for 4 1/2 years.

I'd say I'm more classic, but sometimes I get sucked into the lastest trend. I don't really have an eye for fashion so I have a hard time knowing how different colors or patterns will work together. I love Kate Middleton's style as well, but I am getting so tired of the media making a huge deal about how she wears outfits more than once.

I just bought this dress and these shoes for me and BF's 2 year anniversary date this weekend! I'll probably dress it up with some accesories.

I have no idea where I pull inspiration from. I kind of just go to stores and buy what I like that fits me well!

That said, I tend to buy very basic and classic looking styles. My favorite jeans and shirts are from The Gap, and my favorite work clothes are from NY and Company and Anne Taylor Loft. I prefer solid colors and sometime stripes (as long as they're not too bold). I went to Dress Barn recently on a whim and discovered I love their dresses since I can wear them to work.

I can't stand having things around my neck so I never wear scarves unless it's cold out, and I HATE turtlenecks. I avoid ruffles and buttons on shirts too because my chest is a bit large for someone my height/weight. I love v-necks but I gotta be careful with those too lol.

I'm not trendy at all, lol. Every trendy thing I've bought ends up sitting in my closet unworn or barely worn until I give it away!

<div>I really like the second one on here, but I think it's too thin of a heel if I want to actually wear them. I have actually tried the Guess boots on and I like them. </div>

My style is definitely vintage/pin up style with some flirty casual mixed in. I really love anything with polka dots , a line 50's style dresses - things that fit and flatter and also enjoy things that are natural and flow well. I can't really say that I style myself after anyone , I just like what I do and just wear whatever I feel good in.

[QUOTE]I'd say I'm more classic, but sometimes I get sucked into the lastest trend. I don't really have an eye for fashion so I have a hard time knowing how different colors or patterns will work together. I love Kate Middleton's style as well,<strong> but I am getting so tired of the media making a huge deal about how she wears outfits more than once.</strong> I just bought this dress and these shoes for me and BF's 2 year anniversary date this weekend! I'll probably dress it up with some accesories. <a href="http://www.hm.com/us/product/93499?article=93499-A#article=93499-F" rel='nofollow'>http://www.hm.com/us/product/93499?article=93499-A#article=93499-F</a> <a href="http://www.dsw.com/shoe/kelly+.and.+katie+jaylyn+patent+wedge+sandal++?prodId=dsw12prod2960024&brand=300191&isBrand=y&categoryName=Women%27s%20Shoes" rel='nofollow'>http://www.dsw.com/shoe/kelly+.and.+katie+jaylyn+patent+wedge+sandal++?prodId=dsw12prod2960024&brand=300191&isBrand=y&categoryName=Women%27s%20Shoes</a>

I know, right? If she didn't, they'd criticize her for spending too much money on her wardrobe. Can't win, poor thing.

I like pretty simple, classic wardrobe essentials, then mix and match, adding a scarf or jewelry to give it some pizzaz.

Some days I'm more preppy, and some days I'm more boho. Just depends on my mood. I like variety.

I love all the links you ladies have posted - you have really nice taste in clothes! :)

I have no idea what I would call my style. I guess classic/preppy? I like to wear dresses, cardis, dark jeans (although I have yet to find a pair I love), and I live in my pearl or cubic zirconia studs. I don't always wear neutrals, because I like the look of pure colours against my skin (royal blue, cranberry red, deep purple, etc).

I also would love to dress for fall all the time. Summer is my least favourite season to dress for, because I don't feel comfortable with all the skin showing. I also burn to a crisp easily, so I always have to slather on the sunblock - meaning stains on anything white!
