    CONGRATS!

I am so glad to be done and will be going back to schoole for my MBA in a year. I'm going to do my best to enjoy my time away from school. (you should too Cool)

Man I am so jealous of you right now...I have two finals Thursday. And to make it even more frustrating, it seems like everyone has senioritis, which is only magnified by the fact that two of my roommates have zero finals.

I'm not allowed to get senioritis until 3 PM on May 12 -- when my last final is finished. Until then...it's back to the books.

Truthfully, I graduated kind of unexpectedly last year and had to start grad school a semester late, and I was completely LOST. Everyone was buying notebooks and binders and I am completely OCD about that stuff...it was depressing. But now I have what feels like 400 more years (ok...I may over exaggerate a little I think its only 4 more)

I have two weeks off, then I'm going back for summer school, but it's only one campus class and two online courses, so it isn't bad.

I'm so happy to be done for now though.  I'm planning on getting my PhD after I graduate, but the school I'm most interested in is out of state and I would much rather pay in-state tuition.  So between graduation and going back to school, I'm going to live there for a year before I enroll.

Which opened up a new conversation with BF and I... if we go by that plan, we want to get married before I move down there. That's just the plan for now though, and plans change.

Do they offer assistantships? I would never have chosen a school as far away as I did (from Connecticut to Washington State) if I actually had to pay for this

They do.  I need to research that better.

The difference between in state and out of state is about 10K.

Go Narwhal Go! Get that PhD!

I don't know how it is for the state you're looking at, but when I was considering getting a PhD in microbiology (right now that idea's on the back burner, want to take some time to work), I was reading up on assistant ships and tuition and residency and all those fun things. It seems like a lot of states will grant you residency after your first year in a PhD, as you are technically employed by the university where you are receiving your education, and many universities encourage you to pursue this route--especially as it saves them money in assistantships and research fellowships and so on. So that's also something to consider with regards to applying to grad schools.

    Awesome, thank you!

This is definitely a long term goal, so I haven't researched it as much as I *normally* do.  So any insight is highly appreciated. ;)

They are all about saving that money! I get emails from the department all the time making sure I am establishing residency.Luckily its pretty easy! But you should deffinetly go for that Ph.D., I haven't regretted it yet, even when im so stressed I want to rip my hair out, there is a light at the end of the tunnel. Its also good to have support, I would not be here if BF didn't push me to apply and move on my own (and help pay for it...moving is not cheap!), I tell him its a good investment...

I'm definitely hoping I can keep up the stamina to go through with it.  The way I see it, is, I don't really have much of a choice about going to grad school for what I want to do.  I can either get my masters or doctorate.  The difference is only like, a year and a half in the two programs I'm looking at, but the difference in benefits is rather impressive.

Plus, I'd love to be Dr. Narwhal.

The benefits are worth it, I figure no matter what I do at least I can say I did something different, no one in my family has a PhD and out of the 40+ cousins that I have only three of us have even graduated from college (me and my two sisters) so I think its kind of neat.
