Thank you person who stole the spare tire and cover from the back of my brand new, only had it for three months, RAV4!! You are awesome! I am paying for this car every month with my hard-earned college student money, thanks for adding a FIVE HUNDRED dollars to my car expense this month! Thanks for also stealing the time it is going to take me to file a campus police report and pick up a new tire and cover. 

I am just glad that you didnt steal the tire and also slash one of the tires I need to get around.  You could have made it so much worse but it still sucks! RGHHH!!!!!!!

I'm out $500! Which is 50 extra hours of work on top of full time school! I am so frustrated!

$500 is quite a sum.  That's such a bummer.

Tell yourself that the person who stole your tire was really desperate, cold, and hungry.  It may not be true, but it helps keep the anger to a minimum.

A question about the $500. Do you really need that spare tire on the back? I ask because I've had at least 6 flat tires with my just-recently-traded-in Saturn and I only used the spare once. If you have some kind of AAA insurance that includes roadside assistance, you may not really need that spare tire. Just something to think about.

PS I have no idea what your RAV4 looks like without the tire on the back... so it may not be something you want to live with.

I'm so sorry to hear that Amysbot, I hear crap like that from my friends, whether hubcaps, yep plastic hubcaps, to car emblems, who in their right mind takes the car emblem off a car?  I hope whoever did it gets karma up the butt.  Stock parts for cars from dealerships are a rip off, perhaps looking online to see if there are cheaper replacements?

That's really sh!tty.  Think of it llike Elle said, maybe they needed shelter or something and it was their only choice?? Sorry hun.

I'd look on ebay and that for a cover. They have LOADS of parts (OEM or after market) and you will probably get a hell of a better deal. I don't know if you want a factory part but Amazon has an after market one for $60. (CLICKY)

ETA: Since it is an easy to remove part, you should have no problem installing it yourself or having some burly man do it. That'll save some $$$ too.

Sorry that happened to you. Just FYI we took the tire cover off our silver RAV-4 last summer to put a bike rack on the tire temporarily, but we've left it off since then because 1-it's easier to find our car since it's the only RAV 4 without a tire cover and 2-it looks pretty cute. Might save you some $$ if you only have to put on a tire.

Thanks ladies.  I have been thinking about just having the tire without the cover.  I'm also going to look into ordering parts from around.  The lame part about having tire pressure sensors is that they have to be programmed when purchasing a new one.

Kelly-I have a silver one too! I'm glad you think it's cute without the cover because I was hoping that it would.  I have never seen one of the newer ones without the cover.  Those covers are 224 from the dealership about 50 cheaper on Ebay but still pricey!
