Opinions on jewelry, potential dress alteration. (veil sneak peek)

So I tried on both my dresses this weekend to try to determine jewelry. (and now i'm trying to decide if I should just do one dress. ugh.)

Necklace option #1 - this locket was my grandma's that she got from my grandpa when they were like 17 - I am definitely going to wear it with the second dress, but not sure about with this dress -(ceremony dress)

Option #2 - Silver necklace. (Yes this necklace is super cheasy but I so rarely wear jewelry that I didn't have many options and if I do decide to go with silver I will be purchasing a new necklace.)

Here is the full dress if that is needed for refernce

partial veil (as it is not yet completed)

Lastly -

What do you think of having the bottom of the dress altered like this? I just threw some clips on the dress for a rough idea - obviously a professional verson would look much better.

First of all. Your dress is GORGEOUS.  And I really like the idea ofhow you pulled it up.  It will make it more unique to you.

And I prefer the second necklace, although if you weren't wearing it for the second dress, I would say wear the first one just for sentimental value.  But the second necklace goes with your neckline better, I think.

I wouldn't touch the bottom of the dress. It's lovely. I like your grandma's locket for sentimental reasons. Do you have a solid strand of pearls? I have old ones that aren't white-white. Pure white might look weird though. The dress is ivory?

Awww, I don't think I've ever seen your dress! It's beautiful!

I like necklace #1. It picks up on the gold undertones of your dress (right? or is it just the photo). I love it. The veil is really pretty, and I also like the idea of altering the bottom of the dress so the details peek out.

    : ) so pretty!!

Both dresses are ivory. The pearls are actually a shade of ivory as well.

I think its the picture that makes the dress look like there are gold undertones. (but maybe there really are some) My mom said the same thing.

The dress (well both actually) is way too long and becuase of the lace that goes all around the bottom I was thinking that the tucked under look would be easier (i.e. cheaper) for alterations rather than overall just chopping off the length. I will definitely talk it over with the seamstress at my appointment I have coming up.

Oh and thanks for all the compliments!

I like the first necklace the best. It goes great with the color of your dress and it goes well with the neckline of the dress. And if you are going to wear it with the second dress as well, then that is one thing less to change out of. I think you should leave the bottom of the dress how it is.

Loopy, I think I would like it if you altered it a little lower than where you have pinned now. But I like the idea.

That's probably a good idea. I was mainly trying to get a general idea as I really know nothing about alterations. I saw a dress that came that way and that is what provided the inspiration for this dress.

I agree with Kat- I think the dress would look nice if you only had a few inches (6 max?) peeking out at the bottom.

I love that you plan to wear your grandmother's locket but something about it looks off to me.  I think because it's kind of heavier and the top of the dress is very detailed, there's a lot going on.  Could you put the locket on something else?  Maybe a fine gold  chain would be nice.

Also, you look beautiful!  I really like the veil.

Thanks Ana - The locket originally was on a plain gold chain. I really wanted to wear pearls so decided to combine the two. I just think that I won't wear the locket with the dress with all the beading right at the top.

Beautiful!!  Seriously.  How could you not wear both dresses?!  They are just so gorgeous and in different ways.

I think you could go completely without a necklace.  I would gear towards longer earings with the beading on your dress.  You could put the locket around your bouquet.

MOH put a locket with her parents' pictures in it around hers.

Depending on the price difference for alterations, I prefer the bottom without the tucking.  I think it will be very hard to do well.

Aw, loopy, you look so gorgeous in both of those dresses! Love!

I'm with Mutley on the earrings idea, but if you really want a necklace, i actually prefer number 2.

On the tucking -- I think having it higher up from the bottom makes you look shorter. I know you want to preserve the beautiful lacy bottom, and maybe you don't mind looking shorter. :) And it doesn't hurt to ask about it just so that you know all your options.

I like the idea of shortening the top layer!!  And the gold necklace sure is cute, you could always make it a bracelet if you find a necklace that hangs lower or that you like more.  :)

How could I  not wear both? I know that is what I have been thinking after I was contemplating going down to one.

I don't mind looking shorter. I'm 5'6" - 5'7" so if I were to look 5'3" ehh.. FI is around 5'10" so there isn't a vast height difference.

I do have a crappy photo of my wearing just earrings but no necklace. For whatever the reason I have always felt like I need to have something covering my chest ( I was big on turtlenecks for a while.)

What about the pearls by themselves and have the locket in the bouquet like Mutley posted? With the detail in the top of the dress, I think you could go with a simple necklace or no necklace paired with long earrings like you posted..

I really like the locket, but I don't like it with those pearls on the first dress. I like the second necklace, you have such pretty shoulders that you can pull the whole thing off wonderfully. I really don't think the pickups do much for you, what are the other options to shorten it?

Which would be which? Ceremony dress/ reception dress, I'm not getting an idea of which one would be for which.

The first dress that I posted, with all the beading on the top would be for the ceremony.

The last one with the "pick-up" on it would be for the reception.

I don't want the locket on the bouquet because I would be scared of it falling off and/or it "disappearing." I get the feeling its kind of a coveted item among my family. I also honestly want to wear the locket.

I think I may look for a simple silver necklace for the first dress with the beading at the top.

I think the locket on a simple chain (a bit longer than the pearls) could be very pretty!

You look fabulous, I love the dress!  I think the second necklace looks very elegant and really shows off your chest area and shoulders, but it sounds like the locket has a ton of sentimental value.  Do you have a longer chain for the locket?  I think it's just a bit too much in a small space when it's on the short string of pearls like that.
