AW - PIP

Good morning ladies :-) I have to AW for a second to show you all the most fantastic, fabulous thing I did last night.

My mom is a survivor - the tattoo shop where I get all my ink (yes, I am a tattoo freak, but you'd never know it!) was doing a special for the month of October where you can get a pink ribbon for $25 and all the proceeds go to the Susan G. Komen foundation. So I went last night & got this one. It's on my right wrist. I am so happy with it, and I know my mom is going to LOVE it.

I love it! I'm not a tattoo person, but I completely respect that they almost always have a meaning and that are an art for both the designer and the wearer.

I have a friend who would love this. Can I share the picture with her via copy/paste in an email?

Very cool. Is the "be strong" in white? I've always thought the white tattoos looked interesting.

Thanks everyone! She's not going to see it in person till Christmas (boo) but I'm going to have someone show her the picture on Facebook so she can see it :-)

NurseyK - absolutey! Share away! I actually "stole" the idea from one of my good friends - she has the same thing but with a different font. I have one on my other wrist that's in script, so I changed the font up so they kind of matched.

Lauren - I'm probably not the person to ask about the pain... I actually enjoy getting tattooed. The only one I have that I thought REALLY hurt was on my ribs. But I know other people (including my momma!) who have them on their wrists, and they don't think it's too bad.

Lauren, I'm thinking the same thing.

Bri, I LOVE the white ink.  :)  I also love that you did the ribbon for your mom.  Let us know how she reacts!

Lunars - it is white ink! I haven't seen many white ink tattoos, but my friend who has the one I based this off of has two, and I just love how they look. It still looks pretty funky right now because it's fresh, but once it heals it will be pretty & subtle. :-)

haha! I have both of my feet done, now both of my wrists, bottom of my neck almost between my shoulder blades, right side of my ribs, pretty much the whole right side of my back from shoulder blade down to hip, the typical tramp stamp spot, and my left shoulder blade that wraps around under my arm. Told ya, I'm a tattoo freak :-) I will enable & encourage anyone who wants one, so DO ITTTTTT!

I love it. I'm not a tattoo person, but BF has 5 so I can understand the "thrill" of getting them. He peeks saying "1 more and I have to join the circus" though. haha. I think your mom will be touched...and how amazing that ALL of the profits go to charity? So cool!

This might sound silly but I seriously teared up a little!
It's so wonderful that your mom is survivor and your tattoo is awesome. I love ink as well (I have my dads name on me) and I am in love with yours!
How was getting a white ink tattoo?
  • edited December 2011
Aw, thanks so much :-) I know she's going to love it. I can't wait to show her in person.

The white ink didn't feel any different than normal. I know some people say different colors feel different, but I've never noticed any difference during the process. I've heard people say that red is the worst, but I have a fairly large koi fish that is all reds & oranges, and it wasn't any more painful.

Bri, this is totally awesome!  I love tattoos, but more than anything I love the meaning behind this one!

I'm right there with you...I have both sides of my ribs done (though I can say one side hurt a lot more than the other) and have a large part of my lower and mid back covered as well.  I have a flower for both my mom and my sister who passed away from cancer.

    Can we see your others?

Hmmm... let me see what I can find! I don't know if I have pictures of all of them, but I'll try!

Okay - Here are my cherry blossoms, and you can see the rib tattoo (it says "alis volat propriis" which means "she flies with her own wings") and the OLD tramp stamp.

Here is the new, improved tramp stamp:

Top of back (it's a nautical star, with the latitude & longitude of my parent's house):

    Left wrist:

Right foot - more cherry blossoms (for how short life is) and daisies (my sister's favorite flower) in pink (my friend's favorite color) and orange (the leukemia awareness color). My sister survived childhood leukemia, and I lost one of my college friends to leukemia - her initials are kind of hidden in there.

This is the picture that I brought for the one that goes from my back under my arm - the dandelion is on my back, then the fluff goes up and turns into birds, which wrap under my arm onto my bicep.

    I don't have a picture of my koi... I think that's it! :-)

The funny part about the rib tattoos, is that even though that one was the worst, I am still going to get the other side done - so it couldn't have been that bad!

Oh, and the koi is under the cherry blossoms on the right side of my back/hip. He's red & orange & is swimming down (which signifies overcoming adversity) :-)

    OH Liv, I love that!!

I think that is subconciously why I've always gotten them on my back... there's a lot less risk of stretching back there ;-) I'm not getting the other ribs done until I'm happy with my body, so I'm there with you :-)

BriSox, that is such a great tattoo (and I like your other ones, too). My friend's mom is currently going through chemo, so it's great to hear about your mom being a survivor.

yaga - we were almost tattoo twins! That was my first one, I got it my freshman year of college, and all I knew was that I wanted a sun. I then discovered it was the Godsmack sun, and wanted it changed, immediately. I finally got around to getting it covered up about two years ago.

I don't have a picture of my left foot because I had a horrible reaction in that one, and I'm currently getting it worked on to try to fix it. Any tattoo person I've talked to has never seen anything like the reaction I've had - it's only in two spots, that were the same magenta-y color. It itches like a b!tch all the time - they think I was allergic to that exact ink, because I have other reds/purples/magentas all over the place. The guy who owns the shop I go to has been "dry" tattooing it - he dips the gun in soap & water and just tattoos the sh!t out of it, trying to pull the ink out. It sucks, but it's working. He's going to cover it up with something awesome once it's done.

I've always wanted one, but i get sick of things so quickly I don't know if there is something I can fully commit to.

Since we're sharing, I know I posted this on here at some point before, but here is my back...

Chrysanthemum in tourquise (My Mom's favorite flower in one of her favorite colors,  Lotus in pink (My sisters favorite color, lotus is the symbol for purity, which was picked because my sister was only 7 when she died).

The symbols left to right are Loyalty, Happiness, Older Sister.

I have 3 stars on each side of my ribs too, but no pics of them.

    Thank you! :-)

Well, originally I wanted to get a big ribbon on my left side that was pink & faded into orange (for both breast cancer & leukemia), but now that I have my wrist ribbon, I'm going to change it. I'm going to do something for my family... four chickadees (the Maine state bird) for my Mom, Dad & grandparents (I'm only close with my mom's parents), and three flowers - I haven't decided what kind - for my two sisters & brother. It's going to be a pretty big piece, and I can't wait to see what my artist comes up with. She's so super talented, and designs some absolutely beautiful stuff.
