Be weary of the Detroit Zoo my fellow brides!! We were told last year that the price for the ceremony would be around 800 dollars. We tried to reserve our date last April, but they told us to wait. So we waited until January of this year and I emailed them. I got no response back. Being as it was I had things going on and that fell to the back burner for a few months. In August I contacted them again, the woman I spoke with said they changed their prices since I last spoke with her (which we knew would happen since they mentioned they would go up a LITTLE bit.) I got the contract and I was surprised to see that I would have to pay them 3000 dollars and not 800!! When confronted the people running the events were combative, rude, and would not listen to anything we had to say.
We spoke with their supervisor and he said because I did not specifically say I wanted to book with them in January he would not honor the original price they had given us. Just to clarify I asked them if we could meet and talk things over in January, I got no response from them mind you. These people are unwilling and unaccomodating even to people trying to take senior citizens there! Would NOT recommend spending 3000 PLUS about 80 dollars a person PLUS another 1500 dollars an hour if you go past four hours!!
Instead I recommend trying the Toledo Zoo. The events staff actually answer e-mails and are willing to help you in anyway possible. Plus their prices are budget friendly, for instance they charge 800 dollars for the cereomy and just 47.50 for a buffet dinner, plus a golf cart to use. The Detroit Zoo wanted to charge 100 dollars an hour for use of their tram (not to be mistaken with the train). The price at the Toldeo Zoo includes everything from the rental of the space, to the linens, golf cart, food, beverages, and alcohol.
In summary, Detroit Zoo bad, Toledo Zoo good!
