So a little background to try to make this as much sense as possible: I am in my last year of my undergraduate degree in architecture. Our program is very structured. You must take the classes in an order and they are only offered at certain times. The main portion of our education is our studio class which basically equates to 12 hours of class a week. For a long time, this has been split into two 6 hour days. Today we found out that they are changing that next semester to three 4 hour day, plus another 5 hour lab in addition to the other required lecture.
The big problem here is this change has made it nearly impossible to schedule any electives. That wouldn't be an issue except the required classes for us only are 12 credits a semester and we need an average of 15 a semester to graduate. I didn't take enough extra credits early on so I need 15 credits next semester to graduate. Even the architecture electives they scheduled in conflict with the required classes. I could probably find some random 3 credit class to fit in my schedule, but I really would like to have something relevant. I'm not paying all this money to go to a top University to take some random class I don't care about my last semester.
Everyone in my class is pretty upset about it. They're screwing a lot of people over. I don't understand why they had to do this mid-year and not just wait until next year. We got a new Chair of the program this year and he is just making a lot of really poor decisions. They are overall good for the program, maybe. But they are screwing over the students.
I know orchestrating a scheduling system within such a large school has got to be a pain in the as*, but come on!
Ok, vent over. I'm just really pissed. LOLcats/dogs/sharks anyone?
