Hi ladies,
It's a rainy day in the bay area today. FI and I were going to see X-Men, but the mall was packed. So instead we wandered down to Paper Source so I could get place card supplies.
I went to Paper Source for the first time a few months ago and saw fancy place card examples. Inspired, I started learning about the world of edge punch tools. I purchased this one on Amazon.com: http://www.eksuccessbrands.com/ektools/Products/English_Ivy_Edger_Punch_54-40018.htm
I also purchased Quartz shimmer (white) pre-scored place cards from Paper Source plus four-bar cards (3 1/2" by 4 7/8") in teal and purple. I also need to get some in royal blue, but I didn't like Paper Source's blue shades.
The far-right example in the photo below shows just using the edge punch tool along the bottom of the card. I decided that didn't show enough color, so I then trimmed about 1/4" from the bottom of the next card. Then I used the edge punch. Take a four-bar card and cut it in half. Glue it to the inside of the front half of the pre-scored place card. I used this awesome Tape Runner (<--click) adhesive that's just like white-out tape.
I will use clear labels to print names and table numbers and apply them to the front of each card. The different color accents at the bottom indicate meal choice.

I like how they turned out, and they're really not hard to do. Punching this heavy card stock takes some force, though, so it's a good thing I only need to do about 80 of these. You also can't see in the photo, but it's a pretty sparkly white paper.
Edited for formatting issues. Copying and pasting from my planning bio just doesn't work as well as I'd like.
