That's full of garbage!

So...I just ordered my trash/waste service. This was kind of strange for me, because in California- trash companies win contracts with cities/counties...and that's who picks up your trash.

Here in Colorado- all the trash companies are competing for your service. So they will go above and beyond- like trying to look for your trash can if you don't have it on the curb- and then they will even ring your door bell.

We can also provide our own trash can, which means I can paint it!

Did you get to pick your own trash service?
What would you paint on your trash can?

We didn't get to pick ours.

But now I wish we could have.  I love the idea of a painted trash can!

Our trash service is contracted through the county, but we provide our own trash cans. I'd love to have a bin like that, but we have racoons that looooove getting in the garbage, so we've got one of the big ones that latch. I suppose we could still paint ours...

[QUOTE]That's bizarre. IThe city bills us, we have a city-issued green plastic rolly bin just like every other house in town. Never crossed my mind that that wasn't how it worked everywhere. Huh.

    Right?!

I thought it was TOTALLY weird to pick out my waste company..I pay a bit more then some of the other services, but I love that they will look for my trash can if I haven't put it out- and they'll clean up around the pick up area if it's dirty.

They will also take away all my packing/moving supplies for the next 4 months.

We get to pick our own.

At my parents house, two young guys started a trash service. It is a little bit sketchy, but once a week they come pick up the trash in a truck. It does NOT appear to be a garbage truck. But hey, it was the cheapest one.

How cool to be able to have a customized trash can! I wish our company would look for our trash cans (we have three, general waste, recycling, and plants) because sometimes FI forgets to take them out.

Our trash service is contracted for the Region. We can have whatever trash can we want - ours is a plastic Rubbermaid (we wanted a good lid that animals couldn't get into since we don't have a garage). I've never thought of painting it. We have standard green bins for compostables and blue bins for recycling though (also through Regionally contracted companies).

We pick our own too. I thought it was really weird too, since I've always had the city provide the service before. I guess it is kind of nice, though, since there's competition. We just switched our service and are saving like $80/three months.

We provide all our own garbage and recycling bins. So, I guess that I can paint them if I want  - such a cool idea! We also pay per bag because garbage is transfered out of our municipality.

However, competing garbage services seems like an environmental disaster. What is the point in having all those trucks driving down the same streets? This makes no sense to me.

Holy cow- that service must have been expensive! Our service is only $17 a month- plus $5 extra for recycling.

Yeah, I think we were definitely overpaying...that included yard waste (which we never used, except once for leaves in the fall), but still.

I am from CA so no.  I love the idea of painting a trash can though!  I bet it is going to look lovely!  You must AW it when you are done!

Very interesting, but wow painting a trash cash cool idea.  Where I live it's contract through the county for pick up.

That sounds so strange to me since in Canada the city that you live in picks up your trash/recycling.  The main difference between Ontario and British Columbia is that in ON you put everything you can recycle on the curb, but in BC you are charged deposits for things like pop cans, juice bottles, etc.  You can toss them in the blue box but people will actually go through your bin in an attempt to find things they can get cash for.  So we don't have the option of picking who collects our bins.

I love the idea of being able to paint them!
