Switching B/C brands...

After I moved to Tahlequah I decided to start going to the health department here in town to get my BC, because my gyno is located in OKC. Also the health department is based off of your income and as of the time I started going, I had none. So since I am at a new place they gave me a different brand of BC (pill) and up until the last week, which is now. The week that I am supposed to start everything has seemed normal. However, this week I am a total bitch and whiny baby. I am yelling, screaming, and crying all within the same hour. So should I call my lady or stay on this particular pill another month or two and see if I get used to it?

From what I understand it can take a couple months for your body to adjust to new birth control.  Your moods may level out after two or three months but after that time if I still felt like that I would talk to my doctor about switching.  There are so many forms of birth control these days, no one should have to suffer with nasty side effects.

Is it really common for a lot of people to blame their moddiness on BC? I've never really heard of this until this board.
    I'm not good at feelings.

Loestrin and Ortho-ticyclin (I could be spelling this wrong, too lazy to google) have a changing hormone level every week or so. This did make me suuuuper moody every time the hormone level changed and my dr. said that was common. So I guess it depends.

I have never really had increased mood swings around my period from BC (and I have tried a ton of them). I naturally just have mood swings around that time every once in a while. Is this your first experience with PMS?

I use Trisprintec and that has kept me pretty level headed! I would probably switch. It does take your body 3 months to get used to it, but... you know when you feel good and when you don't. I'd try something with a constant hormone, Yasmin/Trisprintect.. any of those.

Yeah, I'm on Yasmin and never have any crazy hormone issues.  No acne, no cramping, shorter periods... yep, I'm staying on this as long as I can!

I had multiple people tell me that BC pills caused a personality change in me. Going off it put me back to normal. I actually couldn't tell the difference myself.

That's why when I started on Mirena, I put FI on "crazy watch."

Sorry, TK won't let me edit my post!

OP - I normally would advise you to stick it out for awhile, but if the side effects are that bad, you should talk to your health care provider.

I would talk to your doctor and see what they have to say.  I was on Yasmin back in the day and my mom was the one to tell me how much I had changed.  I just thought it was me and my life was all the sudden depressing but she convinced me to switch pills and it was like my own little black rain cloud suddenly vanished!   Everyone is different, I didn't feel like myself on any birth control so I stopped taking it.

If the side effects are as bad as you say, then I'd call and switch sooner rather than later.

And yes, it is extremely common for BCP to cause extreme moodiness.  Hormones do that.  Everybody reacts differently to different brands.  See if you can switch back to your old script, which was working, or if there's something similar to your old brand.
