Who all is around?

I have no life so I'm spending my Saturday night watching old episodes of Psych. I'm considering going to get some alcohol but I don't know if it's worth messing up my diet.

What are you ladies up to?

Re: Who all is around?

  • I just got back from a hockey game. We won >D.

  • You play hockey? Very cool.

  • I'm kind of here.  I was up at 4:30 this morning for work; when I got done with that around 4 pm I came back and took a nap.  The nap lasted until 7pm.  You think I wouldn't be tired but nope, I'm exhausted.  I think it's cumulative effect from this past week.
Anyway, I have to get up early tomorrow to for my PT (physical training) test.  Abdominal circumference measurement, 1.5 mile timed run, push-ups and sit-ups - what fun!!  That being said, that's my reason for not joining you in possible KUI . . . alcohol bloats me and I really need to have that circumference as small as possible!!!
  • BF has to study as do I so i am babysitting, i wish i was out drinking!
Meg - that does not sound like fun.  Do you have to do this things often?  How long do you think you'll stay in your current position?  Do you want a more regular 9-5 job when you have kids - or are you going to be a SAHM?
    Posted by yaga13
It's not really too bad.  You just have to stay in good shape all year long.  Or, at least, good enough shape to pass the PT test!!  We have to do them every 6 months unless you score in the highest range; then you ony have to do it every year.  I never get that high so I do it every 6 months.
Current position . . . well I recently changed duties.  I'm still a pilot but it's best to have an additional duty (both for pay and for career progression).  My new-ish (as of January) position is a chief of mobility.  So my job is to make sure people have their sh*t together and get them out the door for deployments, etc.  I didn't think I'd like the new position but I really do.  It's challenging since I'm still learning the job and involves managing other people.  That's something new too.  I've only really had to manage an aircrew, never people in the office.  Needless to say I'm figuring that out as well!!  That position has a two year committment but theoretically they could move me out of that position and keep me as an alternate if they needed too.  I'm hoping to stay in that position for two years though since it would cover me for an additional duty while we try and make some babies.  We want to try right away after the wedding; FI is beyond ready.
No way I could be a SAHM.  I would actually love to do that because I know it's going to be hard to deploy and leave kids at home; it's hard just to leave for a few days to go to work and leave FI and Hogan at home!!  But we really depend on my paycheck and I have my own mortgage that's separate from the house we live in; the only way to pay that is for me to work as well.  *sigh*  Many, many things to juggle in that arena!!  The good thing is that this new position can allow me to plan my schedule a bit more.  I'll still have to deploy and go on trips but I can work more office days.  I'd rather fly but that's not keeping me paid the way that my new position can!!  The weird thing is that when I work, it's not like most people; I don't get to go home to FI at night.  I usually come down for work a few days at a time.  If I commute it means 3 hours in the car every day and I can't do that.  Especially with gas prices!!

P.S.  Sorry for the long explanation!!
  • I'm on my way to go see HG with Audrua. I'm exhausted from the day, but I'm so excited right now too.
  • Well thank you!!  It's definitely a different kind of life and schedule.  FI's schedule is always weird too.  When he's teaching golf in the summer he has a lot more time off but in the winter when the ski shop is open . . . that's a whole other story!!  Some days he goes in at 7 and doesn't finish until 11 pm.  That's just how things go when you're a business owner I guess!!  I don't think either of us will ever have a 9-5 job!

So . . . Tiger and NYC both got married today.  I wonder how their days went.  I hope they both ended the night very happy, slightly tipsy, and exhausted from dancing!!

lol no, my sister does, but I don't. The Nashville Predators beat the Winnipeg Jets 3-1 at home.

  • Oh hi Elle!!  How was the PITA shower today?  Wink
  • Hey Meg! The shower was good. It was sucky not to have any of my friends there, but I still had a good time nonetheless.

I'm glad you had a good time Elle :) I still hope your friends find a way to make it up to you though.

ETA: I'm jealous you are on your way to see HG.

    This.  Or else!!
  • Also Daddy came over today and we tore down the wall between our 60s-tastic living room and family room. We're going to be putting in this beautiful wooden archway, but for now, we just got the framing done. Here's Daddy proudly standing in the new hole with a few parts of the archway (the main part of it will hang from the ceiling, so it's still waiting in the garage):

Tyler's in the background communicating with his dad up in the attic because his dad was up there working on their project: hardwiring the house with Internet. We're finishing both projects the weekend after next!

  • Evening, all. I bought "The Hunger Games" an hour ago. I'm on page 91. It's been great so far.

Do I need to read all three books before I see the movie, or is it based on the first book?
  • This room combining thing is the most important project for me. What was nice is that we only had to buy two pieces of wood because we just reused studs to place new studs and king studs. We didn't have the 2x6s for the span, so we had to go buy those for a grand total of $12. Daddy says we just need five sheets of sheetrock to drywall the area and that's it. He has all of the tools, screws, mud, etc. I'm completely stoked about this.

  • Also, I know you can't read it, but the text on Daddy's shirt says 'Resistance is not futile. It's voltage divided by current.' I lol'd so hard when he walked in.
In Response to Re: Who all is around? : I'd say read all three.  I only say this because 1. you won't be able to just put down book one and walk away and 2. I think the foreshadowing in the first movie is more obvious if you've ready the entire series.

Thanks! I have all three. I'm hoping to see the movie Tuesday or Wednesday, and I'm sure I'll be finished by then. It's going pretty quickly.

I couldn't put them down when I started them :) I made the mistake of starting them right before finals too.

Random question: I finally broke my awful habit of biting my nails but them one of the broke today :( What do you do when one nail breaks? Do you cut them all back down or just let the one not match?

  • I never cut my nails back.  I let them grow all uneven.  But I am not exactly the prime example of womenhood so don't trust me!

I am getting ready to watch NCIS with FI.  He punched me in the head today on accident but it hurts so I am milking it lol.

  • I think I'll just let them be uneven then :)

Yaga - I tried having my nails done to break the habit but apparently doing my own nails worked better. I have no idea why but it's nice not having chewed up nails anymore.

  • Goodnight Yaga!

  • I don't bite my nails if they're painted, so I try to wear nail polish as often as possible. If one breaks, I just file it smooth and let it catch up. My nails grow pretty quickly, though.

This book is so good. I'm on page 148 now. The games just started. I don't know if I can stay awake long enough to finish it. My eyes are burning.
  • Oh, and I bought "Before I Fall" while I was at the bookstore. I'll read that next. :) Thanks for the recommendation.

I kept telling myself I'll only be able to make it through one more chapter and then all of a sudden there were no more chapters! Even the second time I read it :)

Booooo!!!! Both because you did not invite me and because the Jets lost. Actually, traveling to Nashville from Winnipeg would have been too long of a trip.
