No, I'm not proposing to my bf I'm going to become a certified doula! Right now I'm going to school for nursing and I really want to be a labor and delivery nurse after I graduate. However, it is really hard to get into that right out of school. So I figure that if I become a doula and have already participated in births by the time I graduate, then it will help put me closer to my goal nursing position. Bought my books last night and I'll do training hopefully in March. Then I get to go to childbirth classes, a breastfeeding class, and help women through labor. Can't wait and I just had to share.

DO IT!!  We have a friend who's a doula & her first birth she delivered for another friend of ours.  She LOVES what she does.  Good luck!

Very exciting! I've considered becoming a CRNM before, but being a doula is an awesome idea! Do you take classes and get certified..how does that work?

I might want to become a CRNM after I finish nursing school and have more experience. I am going to get certified through DONA, here's the link if you want to look into it <a href="http://www.dona.org/develop/birth_cert.php" rel="nofollow">http://www.dona.org/develop/birth_cert.php</a> You have do do some required reading, go to a weekend workshop, breastfeeding classes, childbirth classes, and write papers on three births you attend. It costs about 500 to 800 dollars to complete everything.

That is awesome! Do ittt! :) I wish you would've posted this yesterday though, I went to a breastfeeding conference and there were a bunch of doulas with information I could've grabbed for ya :)
