bad habit. suggestions?

hi, ladies.
i have a bad habit of biting the skin off of my lips when i'm bored/stressed/driving.
i'm scared it will show up in my wedding pictures, and my lips will look strange.
does anyone have any advice for breaking such a habit?

[QUOTE]Have you consulted a doctor?  I stopped biting my nails when I started taking an anti-depressant (which I needed for chronic depression, not nail biting).  I was amazed to see my nails grow like magic, when I wasn't even trying to stop biting them!  Some of these medications are also used for OCD.

  • I have this same problem!! I have been trying to kick it for years, and have no self control. I have two red splotches underneath my lips from always pushing there and biting. I hate how it looks in photos.

ive been trying for years, too.  its terrible!!  the week or so before we did our engagement pictures, i tried so, so, so hard not to do it.  i put on chap stick so many times a day to avoid it, cuz i hate the taste of my chapstick, but i just bit the insides of my cheeks instead.  i guess , at least, that wont show in pictures, but id like to not do either anymore.  haha.

  • I do this all the time! I use the Mary Kay 'Satin Lips' to exfoliate my lips and make them soft so I won't do it as much. That being said, you couldn't tell a bit in my pictures that I have this little habit.
  • I bite the skin off my lips and nails when they're dry. I find that if I obsessively exfoliate and moisturize, the problem is much easier to deal with.

For my lips, I like to put something like chapstick or vaseline on them, then dip them in sugar and use that to exfoliate. It's pretty gentle but very effective. Usually if I have no skin to bite off then I have no reason to bite!

Also, I got invisalign a few months ago and now I can't bite my lips or nails while they're in :)

  • now i feel dumb.
i have literally never even thought of exfoliating.
it stands to reason that if there isnt anything to bite, nothing will be bitten.  haha.

  • I have the same bad habit. I use Nivea's Mint & Minerals chap stick, and it makes it look much better. It's incredibly moisturizing. I've noticed when I don't have any dry skin to mess with, I attempt to do it and then just stop, since there's nothing there. I've tried dozens of other chap sticks and nothing helped at all. Now I live by this stuff.
    Praying for a miracle!

I have this bad habit as well.  While it doesn't prevent me from biting my lips, Burt's Bees Ultra Conditioning Lip Balm with Kokum Butter works wonders on my lips.  I had always just used regular Burt's Bees, but discovered this and started using it a week or two before our wedding.  My lips looked great in all of our photos.

  • Dab your finger in some olive oil and then into some granulated sugar... Message gently onto lips and brush off the sugar with a tissue! Exfoliates your lips and moisturizes at the same time!
