the deposit has been made!! Any other Sunday weddings?

Please validate my choices...We're from Texas but are planning on moving to Colorado Springs next year, so we're doing our non-traditional thing and getting married in a place we're moving to rather than where we're from.  That decision I have no doubts about, but can you give me a shout if you're doing a Sunday wedding?  We decided that because it's a grand cheaper (which is still above our tiny budget) and I figured this way we could hang out with some friends and go to Garden of the Gods or Pikes Peak or something...I know it'll be beautiful, I'm just stressy now that the ball is actually rolling.  And still, it's so far away!!!  Augh!  My stupid boss won't let me take any vacation time off between May 15 and August, and my hubby to be wants to finish school before we tie the knot, so...next August it is.  I guess once it's over, it's over, so I should be enjoying the engagement process even more, but I'm almost 30 and we want to get going with babies.Anyway, thanks for listening!

  • We did a Sunday wedding, and it was great.  Had the ceremony at 2 pm, reception started at 3. We saved money on the venue (obviously) and we also saved in a lot of other ways too.  There were more vendors available to choose from and their prices were cheaper because Sundays are not as popular. For food - you can save money by serving a brunch or a lighter lunch menu, rather than a "formal dinner" menu.  Also, people tend not to drink as much on a SUN afternoon as they would on a SAT night, so you can save money there as well. The biggest difference is in the atmosphere of the wedding.  SATs tend to be more "party like" while SUN weddings tend to be more relaxed and laid back (this was actually the best thing about our wedding).
Holy Crap. We survived the first year!

  • Welcome to Colorado Springs!  It's a great place to live.  Careful about planning outdoor events - it can go from 72* to hail to snow in a single day.

  • I went to a Sun wedding not to long ago and it was beautiful, and the number of guests was small.  The one thing you may want to consider is since its basically going to be a destination wedding for everyone you are going to lose a lot of guests not wanting to miss work on Mon.if that doesn't bother you go for it

  • I don't think a Sunday wedding is a big deal.  The only reason we, and I'm sure a number of people never considered it is because we wanted a church wedding and that's a little difficult on Sundays.  I know several people that have gotten married on Fridays due to monetary reasons.  Personally I think the Sunday wedding is more convenient than a Friday.  At least most people don't have to leave work early or take the day off to attend.  If they're coming from out of town chances are that they would have to take off from work regardless of what day the wedding was.
  • I am getting married on a Sunday also, although the date is not set in stone. I have a question for other Sunday brides: were you able to find a hair and makeup salon that was open on Sunday to make you even more beautiful? :)I just called several places around  town and they were ALL closed on Sunday. I usually go to a national chain for my haircuts so I don't have a go to gal that might be able to do it off the clock. What do you Knotties suggest? JC Penny for hair and Clinique for makeup at the mall? Craigslist? I'm open to any and all suggestions! Thanks gals!
