weather.... the one thing I can't change.... need to vent!

ok ladies I just want to vent for a few minutes here.  The wedding is 5 days away.  We are planning to have an outdoor ceremony which is at on a nature trail, over looking a horse farm, in Virginia in the fall, beautiful colors, etc... EXCEPT Southwest Virginia has had the rainiest year in recent memory and they are calling for rain the entire week of the wedding. If one more person tells me that it's good luck to have rain on your wedding day, I am going to scream.  We do have a plan B, but it's in a church that is very nice and new but consequently has no character or even a center aisle!   At the time we thought there was no way we'd have to worry about rain and now I am mad and kicking myself that we didn't at least pick a prettier church for our backup.  Yeah, we'll still be married at the end of the day and I know that is what matters, but I have planned this entire wedding with the vision of a beautiful outdoor ceremony in my head and that is pretty much the theme of the wedding.  I am so bummed and mad because this is the one thing we can't do over or change.  Just needed to rant a little bit.... I figure it's better to complain to you all than to complain to my FI yet again.  :-)  Thanks.

  • I completely understand.  I have the same issue though my date isn't until June 2010.  I am hoping Mother Nature got all the rain out of her system this year and it will be nice next summer.  My best advice is to spend this week planning for the worst.  You can't change the weather, and you can't change the church.  But what can you change?  What about added decorations?  See if you can meet with your florist to add a touch of the outdoors inside.  You may not end up with exactly what you envisioned but with some tweaking it can be damn close.  Best of luck & Congrats!
  • Make the best of it.  Check out this post from someone on my local board whose wedding got rained out last weekend:  >>>The wedding went pretty well I think. A few small annoyances with the money part of it but it worked out ok for now. I had been worried about the weather all week. It rained all day thurs and fri. The skies were cloudy most of the day but we made it through most of the pictures without any rain, just about 10 minutes of heavy sprinkles. We did decide to do the ceremony outside still, and it did end up raining! We made it through the majority of the ceremony, but then the rain got harder and the pastor announced us as husband and wife and we all went to the reception hall and finished up with the ring ceremony and signing of the licence. I really thought I would have freaked out about this, but at the time all I cared about was marrying him! I think my wedding was perfect!!<<<
  • #1 - Churches should not be chosen to be backdrops for anything. #2 - I understand being upset, but it might not rain. If it does, you may still get some clear weather to do some pics outside. If you still want outdoor artsy pics, you can do a fall TTD shoot after the wedding.
Holy Crap. We survived the first year!

  • I understand where you are coming from. My wedding is in 4 days and we will probably have rain most of the week here in GA. I have been here for 9 years and have never seen it rain like this. We just had a flood and now more rain. I sure hope it holds off on Friday.
