Had a moissanite ring for 2+ years?

Hi ladies,

I'm in the engagement ring shopping process and am interested in going the non-diamond route.  I've heard some wonderful things about moissanite, but I'm curious:  if you've got a moissanite ring, and you've had it for a while, does it start to yellow?  I know a lot of the ladies on the Just Engaged board love their moissanite rings, but I wanted to get the opinions of some gals who have had theirs for a while.

TIA!

  • I knew someone with a moissanite stone, and yes, her stone did look yellowish and unclear as time went on. It didn't have that same brilliance as a diamond would.

  • When we were looking for my engagement ring we were looking at non-diamond rings as well, and did a lot of research.  What we found were that lab created diamonds will not yellow, but they are small (less than .5 ct) and very expensive (more expensive than conflict free diamonds).  The rest of the "synethic" diamonds are CZ's and all CZ's yellow and cloud with time. Other options for a clear or white stone are white sapphires and white topaz both age well and are less expensive than diamonds, but you will need to check their durability.  We ended up going with conflict free diamonds. • If I were you, I would go the CZ route and then replace it every two years! The stones are like 20 bucks and you would never know the difference from a diamond.
I got married in August and I just can't get enough of this stuff! So, I made a blog for you! I am sharing what worked for me and what did not. I am giving up my secrets and DOS and DON'TS! I hope that this helps! check out the link to my blog:http://weddingdaygroundhogday.blogspot.com/
  • I have had my moissanite stone for almost a year now and it still looks as beautiful as the day I got it. Moissanite has a lifetime warranty stating that it will never change colors, cloud or loose its brilliance over time. It is true that a CZ will yellow or cloud over time but if you purchase a moissanite stone you will receive a lifetime warranty on your stone against those things. Moissanite is also a very hard stone so you will not have to worry about it chipping or scratching. Moissanite also has more fire and brilliance than a diamond which some people like and some do not. Something that most people do not realize is that moissanite is NOT a fake diamond! Moissanite is a gem stone in its own right. Below is a link for more information on moissanite as well as a picture of my ring. The stones on my ring are gorgeous and I think moissanite is a great option.
