Gifts...who to buy for and what to give

We are paying for our wedding ourselves, at least the majority of it. His parents gave us money for our honeymoon, my mom paid for half of my dress and my dad is paying for the post ceremony dinner (having a destination wedding with reception to follow back home, so the dinner is just for about 15 people).
My sister in law and mom are throwing me a bridal shower this weekend. We only have one groomsman and one bridesmaid and two ring bearers.

I don't know who I'm supposed to buy gifts for and what to get them! What types of gifts should we get family members?
What are some other ideas for my SIL, mom and wedding party?

Thanks so much!!!

  • I'd say that if your parents paid for anything wedding related, that they are contributing. It appears that they are.

Our parents aren't contributing at all. We are giving them presents to thank them for raising us, and supporting us emotionally. It has nothing to do with $$. But to each their own. I guess it depends on how much you appreciate your parents aside from their wedding contributions.

If anyone throws a party in your honor, you should at least give them a very nice thank you card.

  • I agree with Sarah - they are helping you in some way so you should give them a gift.  For my shower hostesses I got some inexpensive gifts off of etsy (lavender scented eye pillow that's good for headaches and muscle aches).  Just something small to say thank you.  Even a cute notepad for shopping lists, Goodiva chocolate, a pretty frame or photo album.

Where is your destination wedding at?  On a beach?  You could get your BM & GM some flip flops, a beach bag, beach towel, sunscreen, map of the area, etc.  Or if they have hobbies you could get something related to that.

Use your imagination and it'll be fine.  A thank you note to each person is the most special gift you could give them.
