NWR- I'm new here and need some food ideas...

I've posted a couple of times but I'm mostly a lurker. Since I've seen a few posts related to food/recipes I thought I'd try to get some ideas...

My fiance and I are going to my grandma's for Christmas and I need to figure out a dish to bring. We always have appetizer-y stuff and someone is already bringing meatballs, cocktail weinies, taco dip, spinach dip etc. so the usual (and easy) stuff is taken. There also isn't a whole lot of room to cook/put out a crockpot and we have to travel 2.5 hours to get there so my options are even more limited. Everything I've found online that looks good requires a stove/oven/crockpot.

Anyone have any ideas? Thanks in advance!

[QUOTE]Could you make little bruschetta bites? Keep the diced tomato mixture on ice in the car and then assemble them when you get there?

That's a really good idea! Thanks!

  • Salami, cram cheese and dill pickle. This is the one appatizer that my family makes every holiday! So easy and tastes great! Just store the cream cheese and salami in a cooler and assemble it when you get there!

How do you assemble it? And what do you serve it with? This sounds like something my family might really like... :)

  • Cook pasta (bow ties look nice) and let it cool. Then make a vinaigrette of 2-3 parts balsamic vinegar to 1 part olive oil. Season with salt and pepper. Chop some cilantro and toss it all together. Try it and add more salt and pepper if needed. I make this all the time. It's surprisingly good and it actually gets better as it sits because all of the flavors meld together. Keep it cool for the car ride though.

[QUOTE]We always do a crab ball at Christmas. Just mix crab meat with cream cheese, top with cocktail sauce and serve with crackers. You can use imitation crab if you prefer. It's super easy and always a HuGE hit whenever we bring it to parties. Just mix the crab and cream cheese and keep it on ice for the car ride, then pour the cocktail sauce over it when you get there. We like ritz crackers best with it, but it's good on pretty much any kind of cracker or pita chip.
