Church / Officiant Donations

Our Church charges a fee of $50.00 to use the church.  But then it's only etiquette and honorable to make a donation to the church and give the officiant/priest a donation as well.

I am just wondering what other couples have done &/or are doing for their churches and officiants?

I know we should make a donation to each on what we can "afford", but I just want an idea on what other people think.

Re: Church / Officiant Donations

  • My officiant is charging us $150 for the ceremony and $50 for the rehearsal. But i've seen people donate upwards of $500 if they can afford it.
  • The most I've ever seen is $350 but I think $250 is probably average around here.
  • Our long time pastor married us.  We didn't use the church, so we skipped the donation to the church.  Had we been married in the church, we probably would have donated $100 to cover some of the cleaning and energy costs.  For our pastor, we gave him two weeks of my parent's time share.  For a monetary gift, we probably would have given him about $200.
