Save the Date

Is it ok to ask your guest to respond to your save the date on whether they plan to attend your destination wedding?

<div>I've never heard of an RSVP included with a save the date. Why not just set an earlier RSVP date when you send your invites? </div>
  • I think you can bring it up on conversation if you see them, but I don't think you can do an RSVP. But really, DW people will know months in advance, not weeks like local weddings.

</div><div>No.  That's what the formal invitation is for.  Why do you need to know now?

  • Since we are having a detination wedding, I thought it would be nice if we could get a more accurate count for planning purposes.  n Response to <a href="http://forums.theknot.com/Sites/theknot/Pages/Main.aspx/wedding-boards_chit-chat_save-the-date-1?plckFindPostKey=Cat:Wedding BoardsForum:14Discussion:26554a86-8397-4cad-a340-ef42e162f48ePost:08c2d33f-b30f-4e25-b0ef-db798664d020">Re: Save the Date</a>:

A destination wedding works pretty much the same way as any other wedding, it's just at a different location.  The venue there shouldn't have to know how many guests until 1-2 weeks before the wedding date.

Asking someone if they're coming when you send out the STDs 8 months or however long before the wedding is crazy.  I know it's a destination, but people may not know for sure until a few months before.
