Crockpot Ideas?

So I've had a crockpot since October and still haven't broken it in yet.  I know I could just go on pinterest and look up recipes but it would be nice to get an idea that you guys know is good.

No need to post the entire recipe...just any ideas would be appreciated, thanks!

Re: Crockpot Ideas?

  • I am new to crockpot cooking myself and I love doing pot roast in it. I use a rump roast, a can of beef broth, season with garlic and onion powder and cook for like 8 hours. I also cut up carrots in it.  It's delicious!
What did you think would happen if you walked up to a group of internet strangers and told them to get shoehorned by their lady doc?~StageManager14

  • Thanks you guys!  I am actually on my way out the door to get groceries, and these look great and don't need 100 + ingredients.

I've never made homemade soup(or pot roast for that matter) this should be fun :)

  • Love my crockpot!!
-throw some veggies, potatoes, spices and broth in the crock pot for some yummy soup
    -chicken and buffalo sauce
  • I don't usually do 'recipes' in my crockpot, lol. I throw in meat, broth, seasonings, and veggies to do stew/soup. For Mardi Gras I made gumbo:

Cook 1/3 cup oil mixed with 1/3 cup flour in a small saucepan over medium heat, stirring constantly until it's the color of chocolate (20 min or so). This is your roux, and gives it the authentic Cajun flavor. Keep stirring off the heat to cool a bit. Add to crockpot with 3 cups chicken broth and your choice of cooked meat and frozen veggies and seasonings (I used garlic and herb mix) to cook on low 8-10 hours.

I browned chopped chicken breasts and andouille sausage for my gumbo, and added frozen shrimp 20 minutes before serving. The veggies I used were a frozen stew mix that included okra, onion, and celery among other things.

  • Buffalo Chicken - Chicken Breast, Franks Red Hot Sauce, a Packet of Ranch dressing.
We put it on hoagie buns with cheese.  It's delicious!  My brother asks for it every time he is coming to my house to eat!

Also, roast and chili are super easy!

I LOVE my crock pot!  It helps make dinner so much more manageable!

  • Daaaang I think this is going to be a new thing for me.  We were constantly buying pre-made food at Costco because sometimes when we get home the last thing we want to do is cook. It will be nice to try new things/get out of a cooking rut.

We do whole chickens in the crock. Rub it down with more spices than you think you should, throw it in, 8 hours, no water or liquid

Pulled chicken or pork for tacos - meat of choice, can of black beans, packet of taco or fajita seasoning. Inclue the liquid in the beans and 1/2- 1 full can of water. 4-5 hours.

  • we do ham and bean soup, black bean soup, salsa chicken, beef and pork roasts which we then use for things like french dip sandwiches, pulled pork sandwiches, beef manhatton, etc.  we also do chili, buffalo chicken dip, cheese dip.  There are a lot of recipes on this website: http://crockpot365.blogspot.com/2009/01/2008-flashback-entire-year-in-order.html that I want to try too.
  • I let my meatballs cook in crockpot all day long. I love makng ribs in it too. Soups are always good & easy to make. Stuffed peppers, beef tips for beef stronganoff, bbq chicken. I just recently put some chicken in the crock with some taco seasoning, and then used it to make quesadillas when it was done.

  • This recipe for *slow cooker chicken and gravy* is the only way I'll cook chicken in the crockpot anymore...so amazingly good. I use Herbs de Provence in place of the Sunny Paris seasoning.

  • If we don't have a lot in the house, I just put chicken breasts and cream of mushroom soup in the crockpot.  frozen on low for 8 hours, unfrozen on low 4+ hours.  also, if you like sweet - I will put porkchops and apricot jam - same time as above.
  • The easiest thing I do is Kalua style pork.  It's a 4-6lb pork roast (with or without the bone), cajun seasoning (or for more "hawaiian flavor just sea salt) and a bottle of liquid smoke.  let it cook for 10-12 hours on low (or until it falls apart) and then go to town.  You can add more seasoning, as sometimes crock pot food comes out a little bland...

This can be used for tacos (add salsa/enchilada sauce), pulled pork sandwiches (toss meat with BBQ sauce) or as is.

Recipe number 2:  1 bag frozen bell pepper strips, 1 jar (whatever you like) spaghetti sauce, 6-8 chicken thighs, (with the skin and bones) , (or four breasts with the skin and bones).  Cook for 8 hours on low.  When you come home, remove the chicken thighs, shred, and add back to sauce for another hour.  season with garlic powder, and add salt/pepper as needed.  serve over pasta or rice.

  • This crockpot Coq Au Vin recipe requires a bit more effort than "throw it in and leave it to cook". You actually have to chop and brown most of the ingredients before you throw them in the Crockpot.

If you are keen for a taste of France, then this is a superb dish to make. The bacon and the wine (Coq au Vin means Chicken in Wine) make a rich red wine sauce as the flavors develop during the cooking process so a bit of extra preparation and effort has its rewards.

I suggest that you do try to use a good quality red wine. It doesn't have to be from Burgundy but it really does make a difference to use a good red wine as opposed to a cheap one.

Crockpot Coq Au Vin Recipe Ingredients

    • 1 small onion, chopped
    • 3 bacon slices (pancetta also does nicely)
    • 8 chicken thigh pieces
    • 1 teaspoon salt
    • 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
    • 2 tablespoons butter
    • 1/2 lb button mushrooms, sliced
    • 8 small white onions (pickling onions)
    • 1/4 cup tomato paste
    • 2 cups good red wine
    • 2 teaspoons chicken stock powder
    • 1 clove crushed garlic
    • 1 1/2 tablespoons cornstarch (cornflour)
    • 2 tablespoons cold water

How To Cook Crock Pot Coq Au Vin

Cook the bacon and chopped onion in large frying pan until the bacon is crispy. Transfer to crockpot. Season the chicken with the salt and the thyme. Place the chicken thighs in the frying pan and brown on all sides. Transfer to crockpot.

Peel the whole onions and chop the mushrooms. Brown these in the frying pan with the butter and then add to the crockpot. Pour the wine into the frying pan, stir to loosen all the tasty brown fried bits. Add the chicken stock powder and tomato paste.  Stir until it has dissolved. Pour this over the chicken and add the crushed garlic to the crockpot.

Cover and set the heat to low for about 4 - 6 hours. Just before you are ready to serve, mix the cornflour and water to a paste and add to the Coq au Vin to thicken it up. I like to serve Crockpot Coq Au Vin with mashed or boiled potatoes because you can soak up the red wine gravy, or with egg noodles.

  • I'm going to have to print all of these out...my mom's been having the same problem she has never used her crockpot either. :)

  • I just used mine again today with just 3 ingredients: a roast, an envelope of beefy onion soup mix, and a can of Dr. Pepper. It's delicious, I swear.

  • I'm a bit late to this but this is my favorite Crock Pot recipe.  It's my go-to for special occasions (because pork tenderloin isn't cheap), and it's so easy!

2 lbs. pork tenderloin or pork loin (if using the loin, cut in thirds lengthwise)
    1 cup water
    3/4 cup red wine
1 envelope onion soup mix (spend the extra for a brand name)
    2 Tbsp. minced garlic

Place the pork in the crock pot and pour in water, wine and soup mix.  Turn  to coat.
Add the garlic, keeping as much of it on top of the pork as possible.  Cook on Low for 4 hours (the loin sometimes takes a bit longer).  If you want you can thicken the juices to make gravy; I never bother,  just offer it on the side.

This year for Valentine's, I made "drunk mushrooms" (saute sliced mushrooms in butter, add a splash of the red wine, cover the pan for about 3 minutes, then cook until tender), and served them on top of the sliced pork.  FI was very happy.

Goes wonderfully with mashed/smashed potatoes or risotto.

One of my favorites is chicken and stuffing in the crockpot. This recipe:
