Flower girl/ ring bearer???

Hi ladies! Curious to know do you have to have a flower girl and ring bearer?? Is it proper wedding etiquette because I don't know. :) The situation I'm in is that I don't really have anyone I would want to be my flower girl. The only boy I would want to be my ring bearer is my nephew that is 10 yrs old. Not even sure if that is too old for a ring bearer or not. Not sure what to do or what is proper, please help!! Any advice or suggestions is welcomed.

  • I'm not interested in having a FG or RB. Honestly whenever I see them in weddings they either can't behave, or look bored out of their minds. Usually they are too young to understand what their doing, or too old to think its fun.

  • You don't have to have a FG/RB. As Retread said, they're for the cute factor. If you don't have anyone you're close enough with to have those parts in your wedding, then don't have them. Don't just place random children in your wedding just to have them. HTH.
  • FI has nieces that will be 4, so they will be our flower girls, but we don't have any little guys running around. So no ring bearers for us. It was just kind of expected that the two girls be in the wedding (which didn't bother me at all, I just didn't really get a choice).
    I'm happy to have them!
  • We didn't have either. My MOH held DH's wedding band and his BM carried my wedding band.

You don't have to have a FG or a RB. We're having a flower girl but no ring bearer. We found out really late that the Church won't even let the flower girl throw petals. We're still going to have her in the Wedding Party since she already has a dress and is so excited to walk down the aisle.

  • We didn't have either as we didn't want children at our wedding.

  • Yup, agreed with PPs.  We actually had 2 flower girls and 2 ringbearers, 3 who are close cousins to me and 1 a close friend.  It worked out well to have them part of the day and not only did they get along so well with our entire wedding party and each other (and us, obviously, since we knew them so well), but along with all the other kids who attended our wedding.

It just depends what works for you.  There is not much at a wedding that is a need, moreso what you always want to look back on or how you know you and your family and friends will have fun.
