Suits or tuxes?? Which is cheaper?

So my fiance and I really want to do grey suits for our groomsmens, but does anyone know the price difference between tuxes and suits? My fiance is thinking about putting money towards all of the suits as his gift to them so they can just keep them after the wedding. Any help is much appreciated!

Re: Suits or tuxes?? Which is cheaper?

  • Well suits are cheaper in the since that they can wear the suit again, whereas most guys wouldn't wear a tux again.  My fiance is getting a new suit for the wedding since he wears suits frequently for work, so I'd say he'll get his money back.

The dilemma with that I have found is the grey suits. They tend to be more on the expensive side then say black or tan suits. Depending on what tux place is around, I think tuxedo junction had the cheapest grey suits at around $95. Of course this all depends if you have one in your area. (Which half of my groomsmen are from NO so I know there's not one there, the closest is in baton rouge) Mens Warehouse only has one suit in grey and that's the Calvin Klein which is one of their higher priced tuxes.

  • How formal is your wedding? What time is it? After 6pm sticks you with tuxes for a formal event. Our wedding will be midday, by the lake, in the summer. HOT! We're thinking grey suit pants or light linen pants and colored vests, with matching tie, and white shirts. We could buy the individual items for a bit more than rental and justify the cost, because it will fit with the vision of the wedding... But we're mulling it over by looking at each GM as an individual. Does he already have appropriate shoes? Would he ever wear this stuff again? Another thing is shopping the deals... We can rent the suit pants, etc for MUCH less than we'd spend on the linen pants... Many things to consider. Would all of your FI's GM appreciate the "discount" or would they maybe prefer the "gift" in a different form, ie. wine, microbrew, giftcards to a restaurant they really like?
