HELP!!! With wedding color schemes!

My initial instinct and what I am drawn to is purple - but deep purple.  Is this plum or eggplant? Then I like purple with pale pink and with darker pink.  Then I think, my wedding colors are purple and pink...am I having a wedding or a birthday party for my daughter?

I have made an inspiration board, but I can't seem to decide on final colors/scheme. I do want those colors but I can "envision" it.  My wedding is outdoors in August in Colorado at my parents house.  Ceremony and reception in the same place, got the big white tent etc.  The tent rental company has about 10 colors of tablecloths to choose from and while there my parents convinced me on this raspberry color which I now think about and think "EW".

I just need tips on how to really get down to my final colors.  I am dead set on my maids wearing a dark purple, its the tablecloths I can't seem to come up with along with my final color scheme.

Sorry for being so all over the place LOL

  • I honestly think pink and purple may be over the top BUT...what about an ivory table cloth with alternating pink and purple napkins?  I am doing Saint Patty's Day so I feel you with going overboard! I def didn't want green, orange and white all over the place.  I decided on doing green and gold to off-set the obnoxiousness..  What about maybe plum and silver with hints of pink?? or fuschia?  and vice a versa?

  • I agree with PP. Are there any neutral colors you could do? I think silver or gray would be gorgeous with dark purple and dark pink.

  • Silver and dark royal sounds so regal and beautiful to me. And throwing in dark pink could add some fun!
  • I'm doing like a plum, black (mainly just the guys are in this) and ivory. I have the girls holding a range of purple wildflowers, it's going to look amazing. Also the centerpieces have the purple wildflowers. I haven't decided on the napkin color or the chaircovers/sashes yet, we meet with the linen company in 2 weeks. I do want to keep it simple though, so I might go just with ivory and let the flowers have the pop.

Good luck. Also try to google purple weddings and you'll get good ideas on color combos.

  • I am doing dark plum and gold.  There are also accents of green in the invite, but it is because there is a tree emblem.  I agree with the posters, plum is a really strong color, you want the others to compliment it, not overpower it.

I've seen purple and burnt orange, purple and silver..

Here are my bridesmaid dresses and other things I DIY-ed.

  • I agree with PPs. At first, I wanted to do a deep plum and champagne. I still LOVE that color combo, but I think my mind has taken me elsewhere now. Gold and silver also go really well with plum.
  • Thank you all so much for your posts! I am going to go with the dark purple and silver theme (just because its more my taste than gold - although this is beautiful too) I am doing away with those awful raspberry tablecloths and am going to try ivory and maybe do a silver/gray overlay in lace or something - I saw it in a bridal magazine when I first got engaged and I have thought of it ever since - I guess that is my VISION!

Thanks so much for all the advice!

  • I would recommend your color (dark purple) and then an accent color such as silver, gold, ivory, cream, or white.  Pink and purple may be too busy and childish.  Also, I have found it to be a lot easier when you have a sort of neutral accent color to match it up, especially with DIY projects.  My fiancee and I are using lavender and silver.  I have found it a lot easier to find the bridesmaids jewlery, any favors, center pieces and just about everything.  Also, you don't want to try and be too matchy matchy with the colors so that helps when you choose a neutral.
Think about the overall apperance of your ceremony and reception, I have found this helps a lot to think of everything in its place.  Also try and think about how the colors would come into play an work from there.
