I was just asked by one of my bridesmaids to be in her wedding ~~~  should I offer advice or only when asked?

I was just in your position.  I offered her the opportunity for advice if she wanted it, but left it at that.  She was doing her own thing and didn't need much from me.  My 2 cousins are engaged (one just got married) and one asked where I got my dress, the other who my photographers were.  They were just looking for vendor suggestions, but made their own decisions.  Enjoy a wedding you don't have to work so hard in!!

Agreed, just offer when asked.  Otherwise, you risk turning into one of those "well, for MY wedding we did blah blah blah"

I agree with PPs. One of my best friends is also planning her wedding that's about 2 months after ours. We're both in each other's weddings. Since we're planning at the same time, it's hard not to "compare" even when we don't mean to. I do catch myself sometimes offering advice when I wasn't asked, so I try to remember how I sometimes get annoyed with the people that do it to me. We do talk wedding a bit, but I think we both understand that we're just trying to help each other. I usually say something like "I think I have an idea/person for that, let me know if you want that info" so I'm not pushing my ideas on her, but also leaving it open for me to help her if needed.
