Hi!

Can't wait for my wedding!

[QUOTE]Curious why so many non brides are on the knot? I thought this was a place for brides? Its very disheartening for a bride needing real advice and ideas to get barraded by negative comments! I hope all you brides out there have exactly the wedding you want and those who are already married, I hope you are enjoying married life and leave wedding planning to brides!

Most of us were brides pretty recently, or maybe a mother of a bride, etc.  Why would you want advice from someone who hasn't already been through the wedding planning?  the negative comments people get are in response to really bad ideas.  The reason we KNOW they are really bad ideas, is because we've already been through the process and have seen the result of those really bad ideas.

It is a place for brides and moms and maids and wedding party members. You just didn't like the answers to your question about honorary wedding members so now you are disheartened. If you liked the answers would you be heartened? Tough when someone says "no, you don't have a good idea" isn't it?

Hey Liatris, can't wait for the bling leading the blind. lol
  • Oh, honey. In your other post, you asked for a young and fun bride. I'm 23, a bride and I'm tons of fun. I also know how to treat people. The married women who post here have been through the process. Who else should be giving advice? Talk about the blind leading the blind.

You ask for advice and you got it. It's not all sunshine & roses. Stick around and read lots of threads. Your wedding should be fun and you guests should be well taken care of. It's not just about you and your FI.

  • Thank goodness for the married ladies on my local board who were able to give me vendor recs, advice, and peace of mind while I was planning. If not, it would have been the blind leading the blind and I probably would have gone insane and/or over budget.

What you'll receive on the boards is blunt, honest feedback. It may not always be what you want to hear but we'll give you advice to keep you from committing any etiquette faux paus that could potentially alienate any friends or family who are involved in/invited to your wedding.

Jeez, what were you thinking, slacker.

BTW - I love that you had a snowball fight in your wedding dress.

  • Personally, I love hearing about other people's weddings and how they turned out (if people on TK didn't stick around after the ceremony/reception, we wouldn't get such good advice, so I love the wives!). Comments CAN be a blunt sometimes, that's just the way it is. Honestly, they can be pretty entertaining sometimes. However, if you're secure in your decisions and your wedding plans, responses shouldn't matter and I wouldn't take it personally. I've posted several questoins on different boards and I've always gotten really helpful feedback and support. I don't have any close friends getting married anytime soon, so I really depend on TK for this. The posters who seem to have the toughest time and the toughest reception are those who post things like "NO NEGATIVE COMMENTS, PLEASE!!! THANK YOU!!! :-) :-)" after their questions or posts. It's like they're asking for negative comments...

I'm not sure that's exactly how it goes, but I like your way best.

  • I appreciate the input of the women (and men if there were any) that have already gone through the planning process.

Honestly, I think these boards could be for anyone who is interested in weddings whether they are a bride-to-be, already married, a bridal party member, a guest, or even are just hoping to get married someday. Why block anyone from discussing something they enjoy unless they are coming here to start trouble?
  • OP, go back and lurk some more. You'll figure it out... or you'll just stay oblivious to all the good advice these women give.

  • 1. Curious why so many non brides are on the knot? I thought this was a place for brides?
Because we've been there done that.

    2. Its very disheartening for a bride needing real advice and ideas to get barraded by negative comments!
The problem is that TK community does not validate rude ideas or behavior. There's no   sugar coating here. If you feel this advice is too much, you should use weddingbee.com.

    3. I hope all you brides out there have exactly the wedding you want
I had a LOVELY wedding accompanied by my family and friends and accepted that nothing is ever perfect and regardless of what ever happened, I was no less married.

    4. and those who are already married, I hope you are enjoying married life and leave wedding planning to brides!
I am enjoying married life VERY much thank you. I am leaving wedding planning to brides. I'm not planning a wedding; I am giving my input when a bride ASKS for it. See when you post in a forum; you cannot control how people respond. If you don't want to hear the honest answer, then don't ask it here but odds are if you're afraid to ask on TK is because it's probably a bad idea.
  • Girl, I will go toe to toe with anyone who wants to lash out at the married population here. They went above and beyond to help me make my wedding the best it could be. Because I listened to them instead of insulting them and snotting about how I knew better, it wasn't a 'nasty' experience. They do know more about this than you do. No amount of foot stamping will change that.

[QUOTE]Yeah, married life is tons of fun.  We get to have the sex without making the Baby Jesus cry now, so that pretty much rocks.  Apparently, I need to tell H to step his game up though, because being on the internet at work is obviously a sign of an unfulfilled home life, right?

Would you ask a first year finance major how to invest your money? Probably not. So why would you ask someone who hasn't planned a wedding start to finish, how to plan a wedding?

Wisdom comes through experience, if you don't like it, weddingbee is probably more your speed. I don't post much, as I don't have the time, but the advice given to other oblivious posters here, has helped me avoid looking like an a**hole. I'd been to 3 weddings in my entire life prior to planning my own, and didn't have a clue about etiquette,  or anything else. I'm not popular, or probably well liked around here, but I still value the advice shared by experienced brides.

Further, these posts never go over well. Whining about people not being all "sunshine and roses" about your crappy ideas, isn't going to make them change their opinions. Accept that some ideas aren't as good as you thought, and move on. Validation isn't likely around here, the sooner you realize that, the better.

ETA- I don't know if it just looks centered to me, or everyone else, but it wasn't deliberate.

  • I keep thinking of it as a personal challenge to make baby Jesus cry with sex, despite being married. I shall discuss this in detail with my husband, see if he thinks it may be a personal challenge too. Heehee

  • I'm pretty sure this thread is one of my all time favorites!

None of my friends have gotten married yet.  I don't attend a lot of weddings.  I had NO CLUE what to expect when I started planning.  Thanks to the married ladies on TK, we're having our bridal party sit with their SOs (and we invited ALL SOs), we're buying them gifts like we would if it was their birthday, we scaled back on some budget items so that we could spend the money on things that will make our guests more comfortable, and we'll put numbers on the back of the RSVP cards in case someone forgets to write in their name.  I'm sure there's a lot more, but I for one and really happy about all the advice I've gotten here so far!  My bridesmaids are thrilled it's been so easy because I'm letting them pick their own dresses and haven't demanded anything from them.

    Yay for married ladies!

  • I have no clue how I missed out on this one yesterday. Oh well it's just a matter of time before another one comes along.
