Question about Job Recruiters

I had a job recruiter contact me for a job where FI lives based in information that a good friend gave him. It was nice of my friend to think of me and the fact that yes, I do need to find a job before I get married (but I have 2.5 years). Anyway, I am wondering if this man will be asking for compensation from me? Since I have never dealt with a recruiter before, I am not sure how to even approach questions with him. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It's been hard to actually talk to him as he has called my office twice (even though I made it clear to call my cell phone). My office is small and has no walls and I feel it's unfair to my current employer to talk about this on office time, or even in earshot of my bosses.

Re: Question about Job Recruiters

  • No he will not be asking for compensation from you. He will be paid by the company he is requiting you for.
  • Ok, thank you, I was assuming that but I didn't want to assume too much.

Also- I have the flowers that you as your picture I have pinned to my Pinterest board. You have fabulous taste!! :-)

  • I had a recruiter contact me after college.  I loved everything they told me until they got the part about how if I got the job, I'd need to sign a contract to stay for a certain length of time.  That recruiter guaranteed the company that I'd be their employee for, say, two years otherwise I'd owe money to the company.

That was enough to scare me off.
  • This is all very useful information, thank you to everyone! The word "recruiter" scares me sometimes because I'm not sure what I am getting myself into. I like dealing with businesses personally because I feel that the middle man is always in it for something (obviously, it's their job). I'll inquire about all of these things to be sure I don't screw myself.

    Thanks again!!! Smile
