Question for those of you who did/are doing pictures beforehand

We wanted to do our pictures before the ceremony at a nearby golf course since the church isn't very scenic or big, however, it just crossed my mind that I might get grass stains on my dress, and I don't want to walk into my ceremony with green stains on my dress. So, what are your thoughts on this? What kind of location are you taking your pictures at? We wanted to do the golf course but now I'm stumped.

Re: Question for those of you who did/are doing pictures beforehand

  • I think you'll be fine as long as the grass isn't wet.   You may get a little bit of dirt on the underside of your dress, but nobody will notice because they'll only see the outside.  And by the end of your nice the underside and hem will be dirty anyway.

Have you checked with the golf course you have in mind?  They might not let you wear your heels on the course....which I would actually advise against anyway, because your white shoes WILL get dirty (especially the heels if they sink in at all).

  • Yup, no green dress for me either.  But if you're concerned, a little white chalk can help cover any stains that might pop up (provided your dress is white or a lighter ivory).

  • I did outdoor bridal portraits and we carried around a white sheet that I stood/sat on and then was tucked under my dress. You could possibly do something like that to protect your dress. PP is right, though: heels sink. Thank goodness mine were dark blue and thus didn't show dirt.

  • For my bridals we did the sheet idea and it worked really well.

If the chalk thing does work then I suggest seriously getting some. You never know what will show up on your dress. Case in point-

Walking down to the ceremony site I must've rubbed against a tire or an ashtray or SOMETHING because I had a huge black smudge from my waist down to the train. It was awful and wasn't coming out. Finally after about 30 minutes of working on it someone managed to whip up a concoction and faded it drastically. I was so careful to not touch anything so I have no idea where it came from, but I wish I would have had that chalk handy.

  • We did photos outside at our church before and after the ceremony.  It was paved, but it ended up raining that day, so the pavement was wet, and I got dark stains on the bottom of my dress.  Even still, they were on the underside and you couldn't see them at all in photos or in person.

As long as you lift up your skirt while you're walking and are careful with the train, you shouldn't get any marks that can be seen.
  • Okay, this is all good to know. I didn't even think about the shoe problem. Thanks a bunch.
  • Great idea! Thanks for the share!!:-)
