Going Insane!

Hi All,

So I think I might be going insane!

I just moved to Canada from the US to be with my fiance (he is Canadian). We are getting married August 2013. I've been here three weeks and I love it, other than I am BORED OUTTA MY MIND. I'm looking for a job but haven't gotten any call backs yet, so I basically sit at home and watch Netflix and sit on Facebook while he is at work :( I've been here almost three weeks.

I'm a VERY social person and I love to meet new people and talk to people, and I feel so lonely and bored. I want to make friends, but I have no clue how! I don't have a car here, I'm just using public transport but that's not always the most fun thing to do.

Sorry for the rant, I just feel lonely and even though he is home right now, I am dreading tomorrow...Monday, when he goes back to work :(

  • I never even thought to look into the library! That's a great idea, thanks!

I've just never been this anti-social! lol

  • I don't know if they have it in canada but there's a site called meetup.com that has a bunch of organizations nearby. There might be some neat groups listed that are close to you.

  • Maybe look into an adult sports league? Not sure if they are common in Canada but I was alone in Atlanta for the summer and met a lot of people by joining a Bocce Ball league.  (And I had never played bocce ball in my life before that...)   Kickball, softball, bowling, something like that.  Look for fliers in your nearest hipster coffee shop or bar.  I also second the library idea.

Where abouts are you??  I was going to suggest Meetup.com, as there's lots there.  Google local rec sports teams in your area, as most always need subs if the season has already started.  And check out the free papers.  Our city has 2 that publicize local events.  Might be more for the evening/weekend, but it will get you out exploring.  Or volunteer somewhere, with whatever interests you.  It'll keep you occupied until you find a job.  Or even pick up a part time/short term retail/restaurant/bartending job.  I know it's probably not what you want long term, but short term I know most people in those industries like to hang out too.  Good luck!!

When I moved to Dallas I joined a running club, since I love running. I was able to join for group runs, and even learn of trails if I wanted to run solo.
Do they have Events and Adventures there? I'm not that familiar with it... it MAY be a singles type group, I'm not sure.
  • Are you in the prairies? I'm in Saskatoon and have recently moved back as an adult. There are a lot of great charities that you could volunteer at. Looks great on a resume and is a great way to meet like minded people. If you're in my neck of the woods, send me a message!
