Dress is still not in...do I have enough time?

Hi ladies,

I'm probably freaking out over nothing but my dress isn't in yet.  I ordered my dress the day after xmas for a Sept wedding.  They rushed me into it saying that you have to have plenty of time for it to come in.

The arrival date kept getting pushed back until June.  I called today to find out an estimated date and they have no idea.  The woman said that she couldn't look up the info and would have the manager look into it when she could.   I understand there are plenty of other brides, but I followed suit.  I just want to make sure my dress will be here in time as I've already made my first dress fitting apt. for the end of the month and I had to do that 2 months ago as summer gets busy!

They "think" my dress may be in by the end of the month.  If it's not here by July 1 do I still have enough time for fittings/alterations and such?  I don't want to pay extra for a rush order.

Thank you!

I think that should be enough time, provided the seamstress is willing to work with you. Can you make the appointments for your fittings now so they'll be scheduled when your dress does come in? I hope it all works out for you!

I have one apt set up for the end of the month so that's why I was so anxious to call.  If it won't be in before then let me resched now ya know?  I just felt like the lady was blowing me off.  I understand that you deal with anxious brides every day, but that is your line of work be nice to me, all I need is a date of when it will come in and I will leave you alone.

I live in MA and the alterations place is in NH near my mom, my MOH lives in ME so it's a timing issue of I have to know when I have apts. so I can have someone there to help with my dress fiittings and learn how to lace up my dress etc.  I'm trying not to stress but literally every single thing that could go wrong has gone wrong so now all I need is my dress in too late, pay a fortune for rushed alterations and rain on my day at my outdoor wedding.

Thanks for the support you ladies are keeping me sane!  Unfort I'm one of the first of my female friends to get married so I have no one to calm me down and tell me if it's normal or should I be making a stink.

I agree with cg...try if you can to make the appointments now that way it might make it a little easier.

I think that if you ordered it the day after xmas, it should have been in by now. But different designers and different factors can make the time vary a lot.

Where did you buy your dress? If the manager (or someone) doesn't call you back soon to give you some information I would personally go there (or maybe your Mom if you can't) and calmly and nicely obtain some answers.

Either way, if it comes in July I think you have plenty of time still. Try not to stress too much about it right now!

My wedding is in September as well. My dress (which I ordered the day after xmas) came in the second week in May, but I'm not having my first fitting until mid-July, which gives about 6 weeks for everything. You should be fine if your dress is in by July. You should set up your appointments ASAP though, just in case your seamstress books up fairly quickly. Just curious, where did you order your dress from?

I bought my dress from Natasha's Bridal in Methuen, MA.  They came as a recommendation from one of the people making my invitations, she bought her dress there.

Until this point they gave me the best service of the 5 places I dress shopped including David's Bridal.  Up until this point I would get a call back in the same day with a "your dress should be in May or June".

I finally spoke to the manager on Saturday and I don't think anyone ever gave her the message that I was calling.  I didn't get a set date that yes the dress has been ordered and will be shipped, but she will "do her best" to get it in by my first scheduled fitting on 6/26.

I just want to follow suit, they put that fear in me of order your dress really early, if it wasn't going to come in or I didn't need it that early why did I have to buy it then?  I just want my dress here and relax about it.  Thanks for your help ladies hopefully I'll have a good post of my dress being in within the next couple of weeks!

They were right in telling you to order early for this very reason, stuff happens. Just think of how awful it would be if it were August, not June! A friend of mine ordered hers in November from Marry and Tux and it ended up taking an extra month from what they originally quoted her. Just be persistent in dealing with them, you paid a lot of money for your dress and all you want is an answer (the dress would be nice, too!).
