I think that menu sounds way too limited.  What about your guests that don't eat red meat?  Or vegetarians?
  • Theirs no vegetarians and my family eat red meat
  • yes I'm cooking it all myself
  • Theirs only 15people
  • Most weddings give you a piece bread as well with with the salad or sometimes it is already on the table when the guests sit down.

BTW, you seem very nice, but you could use a lesson in grammar. I don't mean to be mean, I'm just trying to help.

  • Just because you and your FI love meatloaf and mac and cheese doesn't mean everyone else does.  I love feta cheese and one of our choices for our wedding menu was chicken stuffed with feta.  I would've loved to have that, but I also know that quite a few people don't like feta cheese.  So we chose entrees that we felt were the safest for everyone.

If I was a guest at your wedding, I wouldn't eat meatloaf because I don't like it and I wouldn't eat mac and cheese because I'm lactose intolerant.

Your reception is a thank you to your guests.  Please think of them when planning your menu.

[QUOTE]If you're only having 15 people, that's a small enough number that you can run it by each of them. If they all like meatloaf, I don't personally, then you're good to go. I would add a veggie side though. Maybe green beans or honey buttered carrots?

I agree, with 15 people you can quickly figure out allergies and tastes, especially if it's all family.
We love meatloaf, Au Gratin Potatoes, Green beans, salad, and a roll.
  • I'd serve the meatloaf with mashed potatoes and some type of veggie like green beans.  I assume people that eat mac and cheese as an entree don't have anything to go with it.  But, I'm not sure as I've eaten it maybe twice in my life.
  •  I assume this will be buffet  or family style right?

    If so I would do:

    meatloaf
another protein like chicken or fish?

    side:
    salad
    mac-n-cheese
    mashed or au gratin potatoes
2 different vegatable sides.    (with 15 people you should figure out what people like)
    bread or rolls

[QUOTE]Apparently her guests are all family members, and there are only fifteen of them. Her menu is fine in that case. MzzCThompson, am I correct in assuming that this is more of a dinner-party style reception?  I'd recommend: The meatloaf Macaroni and cheese Green beans (maybe green bean casserole?) Au Gratin potatoes (Sounds luscious, as Cwaggoner suggests) Dinner rolls Iced tea, sweet and unsweetened Wedding cake That should be plenty of food.

I disagree that her menu is fine just because she's only having 15 family members. There are a lot of people who won't eat meatloaf, even if they eat red meat.

  • I love meatloaf.  i am making it tomorrow for my family.  You do not have to use red meat.  Some people use other meat like turkey. Tomorrow I will use ground beef however.  I will use a touch of BBQ sauce over the top then a few slices of bacon.

My jazzed up version of grren beans:
Boil green beans (can do a head)
Large skillet add a few pieces of bacon to skillet, some sliced green onion, pinch of salt, cap full of cider vinegar, little bit of honey. Toss green beans in this mixture to heat through.  Adjust to your own taste.  The bacon is the flavor to compliment the bacon on top of meatloaf.

I just created the green beans to night for the family and they were a big hit.

    Good Luck

</div><div> I'm going to out on a limb and say these 15 people are close family or friends.   I can invite all my and DH's parents, siblings, their SOs and kids (25 people) and know they will all like meatloaf. I'm sure the OP could do the same.</div>
