Interesting requests from groom?

Re: Interesting requests from groom?

  • DH was also adamant about being the one to stock the bar.  His family is from the Napa Valley area and what he spent per bottle of wine would have given me a heart attack had I seen it beforehand.  Given the rave reviews from his family though, it turned out to be worth it.

  • One day my FI has seriously strong opinions about everything, the next he's like "babe, do whatever you want." so it honestly depends on the hour lol. He did say he prefers my hair up, which he says on a daily basis, and I also prefer it up, so we both agree on that. As for the dress, he hasn't mentioned any specifics, but he's adamant he doesn't want to see it before the big day!
  • My husband didn't have too many strong opinions, but he found out I was wearing a feather hairpiece and was slightly miffed about it.  He hates birds, lol.  But he loved how I looked on our wedding day.

He was also really adamant about "Canon in D" being our processional.  On piano.  I kinda wanted to go for something a little different, but he insisted, saying he always imagined his bride coming down the aisle to that music.  So how could I say no?

  • My H insisted on the following items:
    Beef ribs
Mini Jams as our favors (the HAD to be made by us)
    Snow (It snowed a little)
Me not looking "old fashioned" whatever that meant... He never did clear that one up for me.
His favorite beer to be served
and lastly, the colors Silver and Black to be incorporated into the wedding, because of his favorite football team. (Yes, that means Raiders, don't freakin judge me :/ )

He got all of the above.
  • One of the colors has to purple. Doesn't matter what shade of purple, just purple. We started with lilac and have moved all the way to plum, lol.

We HAVE to do the dollar dance. Ugh. I really don't want to, so I still might try to get him to change his mind, but apparently its a huge tradition in the area he's from.

He really wanted to see me in my dress before I bought it, because he wanted to be sure it was something he would like. This is one thing where I put my foot down. I really want the first time he sees it on me to be when I'm walking down the aisle toward him.

This is one of those situation where if one of you says no then the answer is no.  The Dollar Dance, while traditional in a few (and I mean a few) places are common, for people seeing them for the first time it's a real WTF moment and you'll run the risk of offending these people.  If you are against this, I'm going to guess that your half of the guest list will fall here.

Please tell me that when he said he wanted to make sure the dress was something he liked you told him that it only matters that you like the dress and he dropped it right then and there.

My FI doesn't want to see me in my dress before the wedding - I brought up a possibility of a 'first look' and he was adamantly against it.  Fine with me, I preferred us not seeing each other anyway.

One odd request he had was that we HAD to have a cake topper, one with a bride and groom on it, no monograms, birds, etc.  I didn't care at all and wasn't planning on one, but he said when he was a kid he used to go to a grocery store that had a mock cake out for their bakery and he used to look at the cake topper and imagine it being on HIS cake.  I mean, how cute is that?  I never thought that he'd be the type to have imagined something like that.  So, we have a cake topper, he picked it out, it's kind of cheap plastic (which is what the one he saw as a kid was) and the bride on it looks like Michelle Duggar, but whatever.  It's what he wanted and he didn't really insist on too many things!

My fiance asked for our color not to be pink because that's his LEAST favorite color! He thinks its "too girly" and doesn't want his groomsmen to have to wear pink! lol! So we decided teal was the best option! Teal is my favorite color, so I'm a-okay with that! :)

Ha, CAB, we used red and gold for my H's favorite football team, the 49ers.  It worked out well, though, since we had a December wedding, and I got to choose which SHADE of red and gold, so it turned into red and champagne. :)

  • While FI is very envolved w/ the planning process and seems to have an opinion on everything (which is GREAT!) I haven't gotten any real strange requests from him. Its just been pretty basic stuff.
While he had told me dresses he likes he doesn't want me to tell him what I am wearing. What he likes is a lot different than I would've picked but I'm willing to give it a go when I go dress shopping.
No first look. At All. Immediately denied.
Venue has to be on the water. Can't argue that cause for me we have to see mountains. Limits our options but its worth it.
And since I was married before (sigh) he has asked that ours be different which is 100% completely understandable. He fears overhearing from guests that something was the same. Better is ok, just not the same. LOL.

  • My FH has had quite a bit of input into our wedding, which is awesome because I didn't think he would be all that interested, he has asked for a few things:

    1. That I wear my hair either down or half up

    2. That we have a celebrant instead of a minister (this one we are still negotiating)

    3. We play some of 'his' music, by that I mean 80's rock like Motley Crue, Guns n Roses and ACDC.

    4. No Elvis

  • I keep asking "how about this?" and "what about that?" and he just says he will like anything that I pick out.  Fine by me because I am a control freak!

Only request I've received is to please wear a strapless dress "because I want to see you shoulders and back."  Never new he specifically liked them, so that was nice!  Right after that I found "the one" and thank goodness it was a strapless gown!

  • My FI was adamant that I get a "white" dress.  I explained that pure white doesn't look very good on me so we compromised on ivory.  I would have loved to get a blush colored dress but he put his foot down on that one.  The funny thing is that he is slightly color blind and wouldn't have been able to tell if my dress was blush anyways but I wanted to respect his wishes on that one.  He is also against doing a first look and wants not bubbles/rose petals/sparklers at the end of the reception when we leave.  I had to convince him to let me order cute little personalized cocktail napkins with a wedding cake and our date on them.  Other than that, he has been pretty "What ever makes you happy, honey" about the whole thing.

  • Lol my FI likes my hair down best so we compromised on half up half down, which is fine because the tiara and vieil can still be put in and look nice. The wedding date was the most important to him (I didn't have a particular month in mind I just wanted a summer wedding with a date in the middle of the month) So we picked June 15th 2013. He wanted to go dress shopping with me but I put my foot down and said no hes not seeing it and we are spending the night before the wedding in seperate places. He's very opinonated on somethings like the venue, food (he's graduating with a degree in culinary arts this December), his and the groomsmen's formal wear, and thats about it. I love his opinons and I'm thrilled with his intrest in the wedding so its a great compromise. :)

Mine LOVES music, so he's working with the DJ. I just requested nothing with blood, murder, or drugs. (We listen to a LOT of underground- ICP, Tech N9ne, KMK, ect...)
  • Oh I remembered somthing he did want, He asked me if he could wear Iron Maiden Converse shoes.

    I loved the idea!
  • -He did not want to know anything about my dress.

-He chose/talked me into the wedding band I ended up getting (which I love and is gorgeous but I wasn't convinced at first).

-He wanted my hair down (he always does).

-He suggested our 50's themed reception, which our guests loved.

  • My FI requested that I wear my hair to the side--which I thought was strange, because never in my life have I worn it to the side.  It's either all the way down, or in a ponytail, so to me his request was kind of odd.

    Life is good today.
  • my FI is pretty involved in everything, if I don't bring it up or if I'm just looking at something online he always asks to see and gives input.  I think it's so cute since he's a country boy (threatens camo vests and ties jokingly) but loves pointing out which dresses he thinks I'd look good in or what flowers he likes :)
  • FH was adamant about having live music at our ceremony and not using the DJs set up.
He also wanted his vest & tie to be different from the GM.

Neither of those things were all that surprising to me, but he did accompany me to a meeting with our florist and suddenly had some very strong opinions on flowers!
  • DH wouldn't even let my dress come home with me. He freaked when he went into the room at his parents house that held my dress. He saw the Brides Against Breast Cancer logo and freaked! He ran out of the room screaming he saw it and asked if it was pink. It was in a pink dress protector, and I don't like pink, and so why would I have a pink dress? Too much.

  • Fi has asked mostly for pretty normal stuff... For me to have my hair down (that seems to be popular!), not to see me before the ceremony, and not to know anything about my dress.

Unfortunately, he also asked to have a traditional head table. Without the WP's dates. I've tried to talk him out of it, I'm not a big fan of head tables, but he insisted because he feels that it's traditional and he's always pictured his wedding that way. Sigh.

<div>Thanks for the idea I'll have him chat to the dj, I have no problem with it, it's his wedding too so he should be able to enjoy the music, even if he is headbanging </div>
  • -He wants a camoflage wedding band
-FI had a large input on the menu
-he wants to cut the cake with a sword... I wish I was kidding, my foot is pretty much down on this one.
  • - We absolutely MUST have a bar (fine by me)
-He doesn't want to light a unity candle (because they get blown out) he prefers the sand
-Someone has  to sing "Our Father" during the ceremony
    - Our first dance will be to "Come Get to This" by Marvin Gaye (which I also love)

  • My FI insisted I wear my hair up, but he wants curls in there somehow. At first he wanted to see my dress but then he decided he can't see it at all and he won't see me until I'm walking with my dad down the aisle.
He is also almost in a panic about center pieces. Don't know why but he wants to do them all himself and now he is panicking about them.
  • FI has only had two requests so far:

    1. That the reception go later. (we've been to a few that ended before 10 and he was bummed)
    2. No videographer. I'm totally okay with that.

I suppose neither are particularly interesting, but those were his requests.
