How can I make FI more comfortable?

My FI is super nervous about our first dance. Is there anything that I can do or say to make him more comfortable?

(He didn't want to do a first dance but he knew how important it was to me so he agreed, because he is amazing:))

Re: How can I make FI more comfortable?

  • My FI and I are taking a few dance classes before our first dance. We're both really nervous and don't know how to dance! My dad and younger sister both ballroom dance, so my dad is super into helping my FI and I find a perfect song to dance to. I'm actually really excited! We're going to start classes about 3 months before the wedding, so we can learn a few good dances. You might think of dance classes! :)

I like this idea, if it will work for you.

I can't speak from experience on this, but I'm fairly certain that when it comes to the wedding day, he'll be so wrapped up in marrying you that he'll be totally engrossed in just... well, YOU. Nobody will notice if he isn't the next winner of SYTYCD, they'll just see how in love you two are and how wonderful it is that you're married. Maybe you could just remind him of that?

Or just practice dancing in your living room together.
  • maybe a couple practice sessions at home just the two of you, to build confidence and practicing even just in the living room will be romantic!

This is what we did. We wanted to take dance lessons, but never got around to it with our busy work schedules.

Also, not all eyes will be on you for the first dance, although he may think or feel that way. People will be up walking around, getting a drink, chatting, etc, so it won't be as bad as it may seem right now to him.
  • My FI is uncomfortable with "all eyes on him" as well.  I've been telliing him when he starts to get uncomfortable/nervous, just to look in my eyes and pretend we're the only two people there.  That's what I'm gonna be doing!

[QUOTE]Consider having the first verse and chorus being just you and then asking the DJ to invite everyone else to join you at the end of the first chorus.  That way, you still get your special first dance, but he doesn't suffer for 4 1/2 minutes.

That's what FI and I are doing. Neither of us like having the spotlight.

This is what my friend is doing at their wedding this weekend. She asked all of us in the bridal party to get the dancing started when the dj asks. Her H is also super nervous about having all eyes on him, so this should help.

this is a great Idea! I think that he will like this one.

I would love to take dancing lessons but we don't really have the time or money for that so practicing in the living room will work out well.
Thanks for all the great suggestions:)
