Ceremony Music

What songs are you playing before, during, and after the ceremony?  We are having ours outside (not in a church) so we can be a little more creative with the music.  I liked the idea of going somewhat non-traditional, but FI thinks I'm crazy.  So I guess I have 2 questions for everyone... 1) What music are you using for your ceremony?  And 2) What would you think about a ceremony with non-traditional music? Thanks for your help and input!!

Jesse,  I am also having an outdoor wedding so our music is a mix of non-traditional with traditional. The O'neill Brothers have a bunch of really great instrumental songs... my DJ was very familiar with them, so ask yours. "I can only imagine" is one of our favs. Check them out here:http://pianobrothers.com/MUSIC/ADayToRemember/weddingcd.aspWe are also having Cannon in D and Jesu, Joy of Man's Desiring - they're traditional - but not as much as "Here Comes the Bride"Hope this helps :)

I gave my guitarist free creative control over the whole ceremony/cocktail hour with one exception.  He learned a Smiths song from the 80s that I walked down the aisle to. I love tradition, but it's nice to get out of the rut once in awhile.  If you have something super meaningful to you, try to incorporate it!

I'm all for non-traditional songs.  I believe we are using the same guitarist as Yay Bananas.  Our wedding party will be walking down to Hallelujah as covered by Jeff Buckley,  I'll be walking to In My Life by The Beatles and our recessional will by Crazy Little Thing Called Love by Queen.

Oh yah I forgot - after the ceremony we are walking out to 'Lucky' by Jason Mraz and Colbie Calait

I'm have horrible music taste, so I'll stick with your second question.I'm a sucker for traditional music (it always makes me tear up) but I think it would be fun to be a guest at a wedding with non-traditional music.

Here's what we used: Prelude music: our pianist was given free reign to play whatever he was in the mood for that day...mostly played light classical and new age-y piano seating of our moms: lalalu from lady and the tramp (my mom used to sing this to me) bridesmaids' processional: here comes the sun played on the guitar by the best man and my brother (a GM) bride's processional: your smiling face by james taylor, but the cover version by vitamin string quartet ceremony music: my heart is so full of you from the most happy fella by frank loesser...a BM sang this as it is the most romantic gorgeous song ever..we had no unity candle or anything, we all just enjoyed her amazing voice husband/wife/BP recessional: signed sealed delivered by stevie wonder guests' recessional: linus and lucy by vince guaraldi I clearly adore non-traditional music. I agree with danto that traditional music makes me wicked emotional, and I would not be disappointed to hear it at a wedding, but our music choices were extremely reflective of us as a couple and i know our guests LOVED it.

Thank you for all the help girls!!  I read all your responses to FI and I think we have agreed to compromise and do some not as traditional things but still have the traditional "here comes the bride" song for me.  Kelstar - thanks for that link, I like a lot of that music a lot!!
