Engaged. Christmas. HELP!

Okay my Fiance' and I have been engaged for 6 months. We're not getting married till Jan. 2014. So my mother -n- law asked me tonight what we wanted for christmas, because her whole family is asking. We do not have a resistery set up yet. So I am kind of lost on what to tell her that we want from the family. Any ideas??? Other than money though. Because we had an engagement party where they all gave monetary gifts.

Re: Engaged. Christmas. HELP!

  • What would you ask for if you weren't engaged?  Really, one has nothing to do with the other.

  • I don't know that you need to base what you want for Christmas on the fact that you are engaged. Just tell her what you guys want for Christmas. I suppose you could give her ideas of things you would use as a couple (restaurant gift card, kitchen stuff, etc.) or things each of you would like individually.

  • Okay I see what you both are saying. I guess hearing her say that they want to know what you both would like, I figured they would want to give stuff to us as a couple. I mean is it to early to ask for things such as you would ask on a registery?? If so then ill just figure something out.. Or I can say gift cards to places so when we decide to purchase things for our home we can..
  • What I want for Christmas would never be on my wedding registry.
What did you think would happen if you walked up to a group of internet strangers and told them to get shoehorned by their lady doc?~StageManager14

We are getting married in January, our Christmas lists have nothing to do with the wedding. The only thing that could be close is a camera we asked for (that we would love to use on our honeymoon.) We include a few things we would like as a couple and individual ideas. Most family members use the individual things.

What are things you like to do as a couple? Ask for those types of things. What are things that you wanted last year? Think along those lines.

  • We always like tickets to go to plays and musicals. That's a good couple gift.

<div>I like this idea.  We made our own separate christmas lists that had nothing to do with the wedding, Then we suggested that because alot of our money in the next 9 months will be going towards the wedding, We asked for "Date Night" Gifts, i.e. movie tickets, theatre tickets, restaurant gift cards etc. </div>

  • I actually had to tell my FMIL NOT to get us stuff off our registry to Christmas. If she does, whatever, but the registry is for the wedding, not christmas.
  • The right thing to say is "oh you don't have to get me/us anything".
