How to choose colors?

We are getting married late June of 2011 @ 6:00PM.  We have booked an outdoor venue for our ceremony and reception and I just purchased my dress....in ivory and champagne.  I am having a really hard time choosing a color to go with not having a pure white dress and the time of year!  Any suggestions/opinions would be greatly appreciated! I originally wanted bright colors but now feel that my dress will not look right with such.

Those still fall in the realm of neutral.  Pick a few colors you and FI love and compare them to ivory and champange and see how they look

Ivory def. goes with ANYTHING. I didn't pay attention to the time of year when I picked my colors... I just picked my favorite color {pink} and went from there... we ended up doing pinks with black and ivory.

What colors do you like?

When you say you like bright colors, I think you can still absolutely do bright colors. My wedding is about the same time of year, same time of day, and I'm doing an ivory/champagne sort of dress.

For colors, I'm trying to do a combination of lots of really rich jewel tones. I love color, but I don't love matchy matchy and I want things to stay vibrant. I'm using royal blues, teals, purples, and small flashes of orange and yellows to make my darker colors pop. Hopefully it turns out the way it looks in my head!

I would say start by picking the colors you love. Let's say blue? Then find different shades of blue, sky, navy, royal, etc. and compare swatches to the ivory and champagne in your dress to find the shade you like the best?

You should go with what kind of feel you want for your wedding...

Like me... i am going with a dark red, dark brown, with a bronze accent (i am wanting to go for the romantic feel... and i love those colors together and with lights deimed and cadles everywhere)

So first think of the feel you want and then the colors you like

as far as the dress dont worry about it you can through in some colors with the bridesmaids if you are worried it wont look good.

I chose my colors based on flowers I wanted (hydrangeas).  I also took my venue into consideration. 

My best advice would be to go to Home Depot/Lowes and look at the paint swatches.  They are free, so you can take a couple home with you.  I gave the swatches to our family members who wanted to wear coordinating colors, and I also gave them to our vendors to show them our colors.

I can't decide on my colors either! my dress is ivory.

My dress is ivory and we're pairing it with Periwinkle and Black...different time of year but you have so many options! I picked my colors based on the flowers I wanted and the shades available. Say you dig Tigerlilies, you could do yellow and celery green then have your maids holding the orange blossoms which would pop beautifully.

I had a terrible time choosing colors. I changed colors over 12 times before choosing a whole fall pallet. I wouldn't worry about the ivory matching things. Just pick what you like. My best advice is not to tell anyone what your colors will be until you are 100% certain because after about the fifth time of changing your mind they get annoyed.

I think so many people go into a wedding already knowing what colors they want and then have to base everything around that. I think you guys are almost at an advantage! Ivory really does go with everything. Take in mind your venue, and some of your favorite colors and go from there. Don't worry about the time of year, especially with June you can use any colors. With an outdoor venue it's also nice because you don't need to worry about the colors of the carpets, walls, etc. Just pick 1 or 2 colors that you and FI both like and agree on and maybe another for an accent. I have seen so many beautiful weddings in all colors of the rainbow!
