*Hoboken*

This is silly, but I really want to know, and I didn't want my question to get buried.
Why isn't Alice considered a Disney Princess? What are the 'qualifications'?
I'm ridiculously curious about how all of this works.

ETA: I'm obviously curoius because I want to get it right when I do my big vow renewal ceremony next year.

Simply she wasn't born a princess and didn't marry a prince.  Snow White, Cinderella, Belle, Mulan and Tiana all married a prince, or general in Mulan's case.  Aurora, Ariel, Pocohontas, Rapunzel and Jasmine were all born princesses.  Believe it or not Disney has official criteria for being an official princess.  They each had an official "coronation" party at the Disney parks.  It's totally a marketing thing.  Giselle, although a princess, is not an "official" Disney princess. Yes please don't make that tragic mistake at your PPD next year.  OK I sound like a dork that knows way too much about this.

Edit: In case you are wondering Merida will have her official coronation in June, making her the 11th official princess.

  • Did not know all of this, and I haven't seen Sleeping Beauty, Alice in Wonderland, Tangled, the Frog Princess, or Brave, so I wasn't sure. Are there any other Disney movies where the female lead is not a princess?

    Thanks for enlightening me!

Funny you say that.  There is also an official list of "Disney Heroines". This includes Alice, Esmeralda from Hunchback of Norte Dame, Jane from Tarzan, Wendy and Tinkerbell from Peter Pan and some other more obscure ones.

  • I always hate it when people have Alice as a "princess" because for me the princess should always end up falling in love by the end of the story (I know, totally opposite of progressive) and Alice was a child in the movie so she shouldn't have any romantic entanglements.

Also, Hoboken, does Mia from Princess Diaries count as a Disney Princess?
